Are all XLR-XLR cables balanced

just as the title says, Are all XLR-XLR cables balanced?

    Well, technically, there's nothing about a cable that's balanced or unbalanced. That has to do with how the devices on each end agree to send the signal down the cable. But an XLR cable has the required three conductor design to support balanced audio, and it's unlikely that any standard audio device that uses XLR cables is using them other than as a balanced cable.

    +1 to what droddey says.

    With the caveat not all audio devices are 'standard'.
    I have an old studiomaster mixer with its bus output XLRs in an unbalanced (yikes, even pin 3 hot!) mode. Nothing connected to pin 2. Also have a bass amp with an unbalanced XLR input, and those ultra cheap condenser mics Karma were selling as a promo stunt for $.99 have nothing connected to pin 3. Definitely the exception to the rule though.

    Awesome guys, just wanted to make sure for my shure mics because they told me to use only balanced xlk cables

    There are special cables with an XLR on one end and some other connector on the other end and is for an unbalanced connection but as a general rule if it has XLR connectors on both ends it's designed to be used with a balanced output device on one end and a balanced input on the other.

    ok perfect guys, I had a feeling it was redundant in it's phrasing, just wanted to make sure what I was thinking was right.

    so basically the cable will need to be soldered to all three wires just as in how a household outlet should have the Hot Neutral and the ground wires connected in the correct fashion.

    just double checking
