Authorisation

Will we get a patch to stop needing authorisation With Sonar.
I have a feeling the server is not going to be with Cakewalk very long.

I could be wrong but last week the servers were moved to a new domain.
It was probably put on Gibson's servers. If that's the case and Gibson goes belly up,
How are we supposed to get that unlock code ? If Gibson claims bankruptcy, They have nothing more than a moral obligation to give us that unlock code.

I think that we should be able to get the unlock code right away. It is not that we are stealing software that we already own. Right now a little peace of mind goes a long way.

I've read the whole thread but it still wont help if Gibson files bankruptcy.
All assets will be frozen and there will be no way to get that activation code.
Gibson owes 500 million by June 2018.

If cakewalk were to hand out the offline activation code to users, the software code will be for ever open source. If someone wants to buy this code they will be screwed. that's the only reason Cakewalk hasn't handed over the activation code. Because once they do, its all over for Sonars code.

My guess is someone is trying to buy the code from Gibson.(probably Noel or someone from Cakewalk).
If Cakewalk had no interest in a future, we would already have that code in our hands.
It doesn't take 2 weeks to write an unlock code.

I know you have Chuck, I was just putting that to be helpful for other users I wasn't sure had seen the thread due to the amount of unprecedented activity we've seen in these forums recently!

I agree and it also deeply concerns me which is why I asked if we (paid registered users of X3 and up), could at least all have X3 unlocked as a compromise so in case it all goes "belly up", we've got something for our cash!  Not ideal but better than a piece of software which would be on borrowed time.

Also, I'm not sure that having an offline key which is tied to a user would compromise the situation because that's the way most software was licensed before internet piracy became a problem.  We'd still have our own unique registration key if that's possible but perhaps it's not.

Therefore, I really hope that something positive will happen out of this and that's why activation keys aren't being released just yet!  :-)

Not quite; from the FAQ it states:

But what if the servers do go down?
If or when the servers are taken down, we will make sure you have a way to authorize your products without using any of our current online authorization steps. We're working on a mechanism for if this does occur, to ensure our users will not lose functionality moving forward.

Therefore, while the servers are up there's no problem according to them however uncomfortable that might make some of us feel.  Saying that, I'd like to know if the servers go offline, how they'd facilitate those offline authorisation measures.  By e-mail?  I think not!

It will be cool if we do get this magic code. But I'm not counting on it. So I'm taking steps to make sure I will have a working copy of the latest Splat for as long as I can keep the computers I'm installing on running.
I know not everyone has as many computers as I do but if you do use them all.

1-Main DAW my own build i5 16 GB RAM W 8.1 just re built last night-  latest Splat  AD2 & Air Activated
2-Backup DAW HP store bought ( inherited) i7 12GB RAM W10  latest Splat AD2 and Air Activated
3-Office computer my build i5 8 GB RAM W10 - Aug Splat will update Splat and all content
4-Acer Live Performance laptop i5 8GB RAM W7 Latest Splat and Home Studio , all content AD2 & Air but de activated licence.
5-Old Sony live performace laptop 4GB RAM W7  Sonar X1 LE, X3e and older Splat. Only used for live recording.
6-Old DAW mothballed Silverstone P4 6GB RAM W7 Sonar x3 and 8.5 lots of studio stuff and it still runs.
7-Asus Net Book 4 GB RAM SSD  Sonar X1LE ( will put Home Studio here too ) I use this for my backing tracks
8- Laptop at work i5 10 GB RAM latest Splat and all products saved and archived. No CCC installed.

Note; all versions show as owned and fully licensed until infinity.

I agree that the activation codes should be handed out sooner rather than later. If they leave it until the eleventh hour it could be too late and end up not happening. But if they do it now it would quell a lot of anxiety for a lot of people.

Am I the only one wondering how they are supposed to hand out this unlocking unicorn if the servers are already down ?

I think they should re word that like this:

X3 IS unlocked. You have your serial number, registration code, and executable files, right? As far as X3 is concerned, you're golden. Anything after X3 is another matter.

Re: Authorisation 2017/12/04 23:50:42 (permalink)
The way the activation works right now has me wondering how they plan on even executing this.

Example, it would have to work like the offline activation works.
I just did the offline activation as a test on this laptop I use at work. I had downloaded all my products and saved them. So I ran the Sonar Platinum installer and when I opened it it of course said I was in demo mode. Here's the weird thing I had not noticed. We all know that the offline activation is in your help menu right.. Go look in your help menu.. ya, nothing there right,. But, it was there on this machine. It disappears after you run it!! So  this all involved something already in Sonars coding because you can activate it off line.
But here's the catch that I can only see one solution for. That code they give you to activate can only be used once.
I haven't tested this but I'm pretty sure this is the case.

So the only way we will get this magic code is if they release one last version of Sonar that is coded to use numbers just like X3 and back. Right now the activation system is within Sonars coding and until that is changed I can't see just a number that works.

And you are right, they have even admitted to having no way to contact all their customers.. Not sure why just an e mail would not work but possibly sorting through who is who and what they have paid for is a huge task that no one is being paid to do because ,,,,,,, there's no money in it for Gibson. They obviously don't care that we are pizzed.

Same thing here. Studio One is a great product- straightforward and easy to start out with. Great integration with Presonus products to assist with mixing as well. I could never get Sonar to work with Faderport, big hassle! I have a version of X3 so even if the whole authorization thing goes belly up, I can still load old projects long enough to transfer wav files into a new interface. That's assuming my system crashes and I need to reinstall Sonar again.
