I was going to say Paul McCartney but I really didn't feel like giving Jeff Evans a platform to insult me and claim that I totally lack any musical knowledge.

Whichever bass Tony Levin wants to bring over to record with.

These guys have some pretty cool outfits basses as well!

(Some might say the obvious answer is an Alembic, but I don't think anyone actually has one of those...)

You could say Duck Dunn for his work on Respect.

I don't think Jeff knows that song.

I thought at first Bapu was asking what model bass.... if that's the case, the one to the left in the avatar.

But people got all confused by the title "Bass Player Poll".

Are you really surprised that when Bapu asks questions or takes a poll that the people responding to it are confused about said question or poll????

I'd be suprised if you all were NOT confused.

Bapu is in charge of this thread and it's his brain child......Of course it's going to be confusing. As sure as the sun will shine.

Excuse me, but I thought Bapsi asked which BASS...not bassist...

So I'd say Fender precision.

If it's bassist...I'd say Mingus.

I think Kenny Gradney is a hugely underrated bass player. Always thought his playing with Little Feat was absolutely spot on.

He did, and my answer lies in the fine print of my first reply.  But this is Bapu we're talking about, so the straight answer is rarely the fun way to go.

See? Another confusing thread by Bapu ....

I am so confused I can't even think of a good bass players name or a good bass brand or model ..... My head is spinning from the confusing

I wish he would have asked more about the dulcimer player and or dulcimer brand or model

That would be less confusing for sure ... Or shure

Now where is my harmonica ?

Re: Becan is good. 2014/02/21 01:59:59 (permalink)
Bassist: Gary Karr (one of only a handful of upright classical players to succeed as an international soloist on the instrument).  I have spent years seeking to emulate his bowing/tone, and his intonation is fabulous.

In terms of a bass: my preference would be hopelessly out of my price range.  I am thankful to have a solid wood carved bass (non-plywood) that sounds quite decent (a person who had it before me treated it brutally, so it has "issues" and "potential issues" and I got it fairly inexpensively as a result, several years ago).  But the sort of bass I would like (drool over) would now be in the $25,000+ class, either French, or better yet, Italian, from about 1850 or so (I do know what sort of sound that type of instrument has).  But again, I am very thankful for what I have, and it is better than I would have expected to get, given my circumstances.

Ok: to answer a humorous question seriously, or is that ... humorous question, seriously?

Oh, and dulcimer player or model (assuming mountain as opposed to hammered):

Player: no clear idea.
Maker/model: Blue Lion - wonderful tone, and the string length is quite reasonable (and compared to classical upright bass the dulicmer is sooooooo much easier to play).

Before I answer you I have a few questions.

How many kinds of basses did Juan make?
Why can't I choose more than Juans'? Are they being given away?
Where did you hear about this?
How long do I have to make a choice?
Do I get to play them or just Juan?
Will I get to play Juans bass or have to go with pic(s)?
Is there shipping charges? Will Juan take care of that if there is?
Does Juan make basses or is a middleman?

Forget it. I have a bass and it plays fine.
