BCF2000 v1.04 firmware upgrade

I bought a used BCf2000 and it has 1.04 on it. I know there are tons of posts on bcf2000, but when I use the utility update it says:

Checking MidiPorts...
No Suitable device found!
Please choose another file using the OPEN button or connect an appropriate device and press the RESCAN button.

I've tried both the 1.07 and the 1.10 .syx files. I've tried with both v1.1.1.0 and v1.1.1.1 drivers installed. Does anyone know why my the update utility can't seem to recognize the controller? I'm using windows xp. The drivers install fine and the bcf2000 is in my usb system tray so I don't know what to do. Please help!

    CJ,

I can't upgrade the firmware on the bcf. it still only has 1.04 on it. I'd like to update to 1.10 but the BCUPDATE utility can't seem to find the bcf2000 when its connected to my computer. I imagine you had to update your firmware too. Did you have anyproblems with the update utility finding a "suitable device"? So I haven't even tried to use it with sonar as I understand that 1.04 only has bc mode anyway. I need MCSo mode for sonar (which I think is in v1.06 and higher ie v1.10)

I had no problems on XP and Vista. Are you updating while your BCF is connected. I dont think you r suppose to, it will tell you when to connect it halfway thru the process..

Thanks for you help CJ, but I think it has something to do witih my computer. It doesn't recoginze it as a device although the drivers are installed. So when I go to update the firmware, it dosen't even know the bcf is connected to my computer. I've sent a quesstion to Berhinger in hopes of them being able to shed some light. Again tx.

You have to put the BCF in it's original BCF mode not a setting for the seqencer. So, if it's in the setting for Sonar, you have to take it out of that setting and put in back to its origial default BCF setting.

    Got it,

I can't remember if I was doing a firmware update or a sysex dump but my BCR2000 flipped out on me one time and my computer told me something to the effect that the USB port could no longer be used to communicate to my BCR. After picking my jaw up from off of the gorund I resorted to retrying the update/dump via the MIDI connection. I was able to complete the process via MIDI and in turn restored communication to the USB port on the BCR. You might want to give that a try.

Yah, restore the BCF, and install the latest USB driver for the BCx series.

Thanks all for the help. Jesse,
Is there different modes for v1.04 on the bcf? I've read the firmware instructions on how to boot up in the different modes ie hold down the first button and then turn on the power to boot up in BC mode. But when I do it nothing happens. The instruction say that the display will briefly show the version number (which it does) followed by the mode the bcf is booted in. But mine just shows the version number never the mode its in. So I assumed v1.04 only has one mode which is what ever is installed with v1.04.

You might have something there. Unfortunetly I don't have midi on my computer so I would have to buy a midi usb cord to try it. I do have another computer though, I should try and install it on there to see if my computer is just being a troublemaker. Tx.

If you download the zipped v1.07 file from Berhinger you'll get a pdf that has some pretty good instructions as to the different modes. Not sure if it will help.

I thought you were hooking it up with the USB connections from the BCF to your PC.

Blades: I've heard of that and am currently trying to roll back Java but it's seems to be more difficult then expected.

CJ: I am connected via usb cable, but I think Psamlist was suggesting that I use the midi from bcf to usb on the computer.

All good ideas guys thatnks for your help! I should have time later this week to try a few things out. :-D

you need to be connected via USB, that is your midi connection. Good luck. P.S. Are you hoding down the 4th button on top when starting the BCF, this will put it in NCSo mode, then when you define your midi I/O's and select mackie mode as your control mode is should say TR in the LCD screen of the BCF.

i spent 6 months trying to figure it out before i gave in to mackie control mode. it works but not as well as a dedicated sonar mode probably would work a lot smoother

6 months, Thats very interseting. It took me a few hours to figure it out with the help of Jesse, and it has been running great in mackie mode ever since. I have Pause, Stop. FF, RW, Stop, Mutes, pan control and Fader controls. Thats how it works in mackie mode and that is the best mode in sonar.

6 months off and on. I haven't been completely faithful to Sonar since I got it in 2005. Well come to think of it its been a lot longer than 6 months. i bought my bcf a couple of months before that. I was using it as a transport in Reason for a long time before I finally said no I need to just use it in Sonar and control everything in Sonar. I didn't know of Jesse at the time so I went though tech support which was barely helpful. Anyway I only use it now for play and stop i dont know of the mutes and rewind functions. Do you have aphoto of what does what or how you assigned it? If so may I see it please it would be very helpful for me. I don't doubt that Mackie Control mode may be the best mode once you figure out all quirks behind it but I couldn't even get my bcf to work with sonar until Febuary of this year!!! I bought my bcf in September of 2005 and Sonar in November of 2005.

N need for photos, its right there in front of you. Look at your BCF. The 4 buttons on the bottom right are your pause, stop, FF, and RW.
The faders are the faders. The nobs above the faders are the pans, the buttons above the faders are the mutes. and the preset arrows move your from tracks 1-8 to 9-16 and so on. In my case it moves from 1-16 to 17-32. I have 2 hooked up.

Houston....I have control! Eveyone thanks a million!! Blades thanks for re-iterating the java roll back...it did the trick. I had to roll back to JSE (J2SDK/J2RE - 1.4 ). Once i installed that (by uninstalling the 1.6 in add/remove programs) I just simply followed Jesse's steps as laid out in his previous post. It works awsome...maybe perfect (for now...lol). Btw, don't bother with help from behringer because it takes 2 days to get a response and its pretty much a one liner that is useless. Now i can get back to makin mewsic. thanks all!

    Xabition,

Go to behringer site and download > This ZIP FILE < of the v1.07 driver but don't use it, just open the PDF file and delete the driver. he PDF will show you which buttons work when use Mackie Mode and the BCF is set for Sonar. You don't have to configure much, only in Sonar and push two buttons on the BCF and you are done.

Take your Time. The same setup works for reason, Two button setup and using reason to control it in Mackie Mode. AGAIN, use Sonar to operate the BCF in Mackie Mode and set up the BCF for use with Sonar.

Got it... if not, follow the link in my previous post above on how to learn how to set up the BCF

    Peace
