BFD Eco 1.5 goes 64 bit + free new kit to download

Well it's been a while coming but it's here at last for those whose life's have been misery whilst they've had to endure the agonies
of watching the world race race ahead into the future while they've been stuck in the 32 bit dark ages

This seems a bit harsh on all those people that would have, "obviously" taken advantage of the recent sale from November to January
and will now have to pay again, hope they left it a while before registering

Having said that this isn't just an 64 bit upgrade and the Orange County snare is one of my favourites of the BFD2 collection and collectivley the new kit pieces you'll be getting are worth the cost I'd say.

Downloading it now.  I was having a problem with BFD Eco not remembering the patch/kit I used.  It worked for a while.  Not sure what happened but maybe this 64 bit update will help.  Anyone have a fix for that issue?  I already asked around on the eXpansion forum without any luck.

    Thanks.

Did you report your problem to fxpansion?

I think I might have replied to it suggesting I thought the problem was most likely a sonar one but I think you said that it
happened with stand alone mode to. Anyway, hope it sorts it out for you.

I must say that having looked at the new kits that you're getting with 1.5 it's well worth the small fee that is being asked.

I think it might still be a way off yet.
I applied to be a beta tester a week or so ago but thought they would have almost certainly been too far down that road already and
wouldn't be needing anyone else but they said to fill in an NDA form and they'd get back to me so either they haven't started beta
testing yet or they're working on the, "more the merrier" principle.

Anyway, that was 2 weeks ago and I've not heard from them yet. I don't know how long the beta testing process normally takes but I would
have guessed at a couple of months at least, so as I said, could be a while yet.

Mmmmm Are they anticipating some major exchange rate fluctuations before the end of March? From the FAQ

During the introductory upgrade offer, the pricing is $20, €15, £13 for registered BFD Eco 1.0.x users. This offer ends on March 31st 2012. The subsequent price will be $50, €35, £25.
    But on the product page
The BFD Eco 1.5 upgrade is available for USD $20, EUR €15, GBP £13 inc VAT until 31 March 2012. From 1 April 2012 onwards BFD Eco 1.5 upgrade will be USD $40, EUR €30, GBP £26 inc VAT.

Did you register, "or perhaps buy" Eco on or after the 1st of January?
If it was registered before the beginning of the year you'll have to pay the $20
As I sad, even at $20 the extra kits are well worth it. The trick snare has a fantastic rim shot, if rim shots are your thing that is

I paid the $20 for the 64bit version (I bought Eco in November of 2011). I downloaded the program but did not see where to download the new kit.

I have not installed the upgrade. Is the new kit in the installer? When I bought Eco I had to download the samples separately.

    Sorry, not quite awake yet.

    Hi Bapu
I couldn't say whether the kits are in the download or not but if the file size is more than a gigabyte,
(and I'd hazard a guess and say it would probably be about 3GIG) then I would say yes it's included.

I was going to grab it when I saw it but I bought Eco back in October and I already have BFD2.
As much as I would prefer to have Eco in 64bit I'm not sure I use it enough to warrant the upgrade although £13 isn't
much so I could change my mind between now and the end of March

Nope the installer (.exe) is only 338mb.

Now that I have Valentines breakfast with my Lovely Lady and I'm awake I'll do more research on the new kit.

BTW, I have BFD2 but I look at Eco and BFD2 as their EZDrummer to Superior. Might be useful for quick sketches and I'm a drum rompler hoarder.

Hmm, seems to be not big enough to be all the kits pieces (although they are 16bit)
but a little to big too be merely a 64bit update, interesting.

I guess the best way to find out is install, then you should be asked at some point where
to install the data. Then you'd know if it's there or not.

I am tempted to buy it for the same reason you gave, that and the fact that I wouldn't
be able to get any future updates as they will be for the 64 bit version only I think?

I noticed there are two downloads for Eco and I'm slightly confused as one says for existing owners and the other is for new owners.
I guess it means those who bought Eco since the start of January and those before.
The, "new owners" one is 1.45GB so I'm naturaly wondering what they are getting that we're not

So MrMook, are you saying you only intend upgrading when BFD3 is released?
BFD2 is pretty damned good as it is and was a very big step up from BFD1.

I'm not saying BFD3 wont be a big step up but with BFD2 being so good it's really hard to see how it can be improved upon.

But then that's why I'm not a software developer

Steve, I can't seem to quote posts properly. Grrrr! I have BFD2 and will upgrade to BFD3 when it's available. This little purchase is probably a waste of money but I am trying desperately to get away from everything 32 bit. I've had niggling problems loading some 64 bit projects into Producer that use 32 bit Vsts. Not sure why. There's a tiny problem on my system, obviously. Not sure what it is and I don't feel like expending the energy to find something that fails once in awhile.

    Hey guys,

Drew from FXpansion here. Just wanted to address a few of the points raised in this thread.

    1. There is no interaction between our software and the iLok drivers or hardware - it just isn't possible for us to scupper device drivers.
    2. Eco 64bit obviously cost money to develop. We feel that a $20 upgrade fee is pretty darn reasonable. And the bonus audio content is great.
    3. Our installer uses lossless compression to keep the audio data to a minimal size. That's why the installer is only 338mb. But there are two kits included, plus a few auxiliary pieces.
    4. The 'new owners' installer includes all the audio content from BFD Eco 1.0 and BFD Eco 1.5. This is for people who buy Eco from scratch. The 'upgrade' installer is for people who already have BFD Eco 1.0 installed, and don't want the hassle of downloading all that extra content again - it only includes the new audio data, not the 1.0 stuff.

    Hope that helps!

    Hey guys,

    2. Eco 64bit obviously cost money to develop. We feel that a $20 upgrade fee is pretty darn reasonable. And the bonus audio content is great.

I certainly agree with that, I'd say the extra kits (or kit pieces) are a bargain at that price.

    Hey guys,

Drew from FXpansion here. Just wanted to address a few of the points raised in this thread.

    You skipped BFD3 64bit though.

Just a followup to my issue of not having BFD Eco presets stored after saving a project.  I reset my audio data path to what kept defaulting even though I tried to change it.  Anyway, I can now open a project and have the BFD Eco preset come up as well.

Thanks for that info Steve. The downloader puts both a 32 and a 64 bit version into my folders. I put the 64 bit plug through its paces in stand alone and in my vst folder. It rocks!

My only question is why did they call this program "eco"? I just purchased and loaded Studio Drummer and it is a nice straight forward and easy to use program and it sounds good, but the sounds in the engine are still not as good or as varied as the ones in BFD eco. The company could have easily called the the program BFD and called the other BFD pro. I have 40.00 invested and I have a really nice drum engine, being that it's now 64 bit only adds icing on the cake(no pun intended).
