BFD3 Install question
I'm upgrading from BFD2 to 3. It's a 38gig download and I need to DL to my home computer where we've got fast internet and then install on my studio DAW where we've got horrible DL speeds. But it looks like the way FXPansion handles downloading and installing makes this problematic. Anyone familiar with this and how to do it???

The download comes in several Packages...just copy them to a flash or portable drive and install...there are detailed instructions in your Fxpansion account

But from my reading of the installer it looks like the "audio content" is downloaded and installed as part of the authorization process. Is that not correct?

You can download the core library from the Fxpansion site...

It's kind of a weird process..but, nevertheless...I have it the full core library installer (40 gb) "stored"...

The PDF says that you have run the installer...telling it where you want the audio data...in order to download and install the samples. But if I do that I'm installing it to the wrong computer. I'm hoping there's a way to just download the data, put it in a USB drive, take it to the studio and xfer it to the DAW...then install it from there. I emailed FXPansion so we'll see what they say.

It will download the installer package...when it wants to run...just click cancel and then just move it to your drive...

Welp...it turns out I can't even get the "audio ticket" which downloads the samples to either show up or work at all...using the menu option or the help link. I'm suspecting it's my using Win 10 on my home lappie. FXPansion forum has not been much help. Will wait to see what FXP has to say tomorrow. Wish DrewFX would drop by and share some insight.

Though quite frustrating this all seems a bit silly to me. While I have occasionally run into authorization problems with other software vendors, I can't recall a time where simply downloading the content was so problematic. FXPansions "ticket" thingy is nothing more than a useless impediment to the user. As it stands now even if I wanted to install and run BFD3 on my home laptop (instead of simply using it as temporary storage) I couldn't because I cannot open the "audio ticket" to get the samples at all. Sheesh.

That's odd...did you do the "generate ticket" thingy? Download Users1) Download the BFD3 Software Installer 2) Download the ticket for downloading the Core Library audio data Note - if having issues, right click on this link and select "Save As": Download Ticket3) Follow these instructions: HTML or PDF

Yup...but on my win10 machine if you right click on the "help" link to the file it only gives three options...none of which are save or save as, as in other Windows iterations and every option just gave me the page full of file paths.
SO....
This morning I went and got my wife's laptop, which is an old vista machine. Still couldn't get the download ticket by double clicking the menu option but DID get by right clicking the "help" link and saving as to a USB flash drive. Then I took that down to my win10 lappie and ran the BFD3 installer...then double clicked the "ticket" file which brought up a screen saying I needed to authorize BFD3...which I did not want to do...so...as you suggested earlier I hit Cancel and that screen went away leaving a screen that said...miracle of miracles...that the audio data WAS downloading and would take approx 6 hours. So far still humming.
Of course I'll still have to copy all of that to my portable 1T USB drive and take it downtown to my DAW and try and get it all to work.
Pretty lame.

One of the pitfalls of "online authorization" but I knew that I had done it... I keep EVERY installer and other file "archived" on a storage drive...

I can feel your pain Ol' Pal. I have the program and core library stored on different drives. If my main drive goes down I'll just have to install the program. Files that big take a long time to install even if you have them on a stick.

I get about 15mbps download speed at home...only 3mbps at the studio...and I started downloading the approx 40 gig file about 10:30 this morning. It's now 6pm and I just hit 60% downloaded. Sheesh!
Then I still have to copy that to my pocket USB drive, take it down to my DAW tomorrow and hope I can get it all working right.

OK...it's now 11pm and I've been stuck at 99% downloaded and "in the queue" for about 30 minutes. From my web sleuthing this is a fairly common occurance. I'm going to let it run overnight and see if that resolves the problem...though I bet not. What a crock and a cock-up of a download system.

This is making me feel better about not making the leap to BFD3...yet. I watched a few videos about installing and it seemed a little overly complicated.

It's not as bad as it seems...off line install is the big thing...because of the hoops you have to jump through to get there..

If you buy it from Sweetwater or somewhere else (not upgrade), it comes to you pre loaded on a cool USB stick. Installation is easy.

It's a bit convoluted, but not too terribly difficult. It's worth it IMHO - I'm spending more time with it lately and just floored by what it can do. I wish I could easily integrate the song builder of EZ2 into BFD3. :) I know I can export the midi and use a key map, so I can make it work, I just wish it was integrated.

if you can install or load IK multimedia software then you will have no real issues with FXexpansion software. the offline installations are a bit tricky and the instructions are somewhat technical when they don't need to be. but, once you have your software downloaded, which takes ages no matter how fast your connection and you have all the files you need and they are installed...... the plugins work as advertised, they are really great sounding and good products. installation and instructions could be a bit better with refined smoother processes but it really is worth it in the end. good products once installed.

Oakely Doakely, Still at 99% in the queue this morning as well. Sent an email to FXP and they said to try and x out of the download but use the keep all files already downloaded option and then restart the download...which I did...or tried to do. But now the License Manager is stuck on a screen and has been for a few hours that says "Removing this download package...please wait". So I am. And I sent another email to FXP asking for step by step directions on how to proceed. BTW, I have 37.8 out of 37.9 gigs downloaded when the dang thing hung up. I tell ya, Jackass Hill is awful steep.

Mental note...If I ever buy BFD3 get the stick! This sounds like the way to go. I agree with what smallstonefan said about EZD2. The way it works, is buy far the easiest way to build midi parts. I'll stick with it and AD2 for now (I have went over budget this year already).

I just got the download because my guys at Sweetwater matched the price MF had it at. And, really, even though, as The Donald might say, it's HUGE most other companies either have rock solid downloaders or break a file that size up into smaller chunks or figure out some way of reliably getting your data to you. Plus, I realize that I'm trying to do something a bit different, i.e. download on one box and take to another, but geeze louise!!

Welp... after not being able to rescan without crashing I simply quit the License manager and copied over what I had (37.8 of 37.9gigs) took it to the studio and installed everything this morning. It's quite possible I might be missing a sample here and there but so far everything seems to be working just fine...all authorized and updated. I'll keep ya posted. I had read somewhere...probably the FXP forum...that our ol pal Drew-FX had said if you had 37.8gigs you should be fine. So let's hope he's right. Now.... Dang!!!! BFD3 sounds amazing. Big, bold, clear, in your face...wonderful. And I like the new interface and workflow...took right to it. Might have to tweak my preferences a bit but...as Chris Walken would say: Wowie, wow, wow!!

OK...here's the latest. I have BFD2 with several extra expansion paks. BFD3 scanned them, found them all and I can load them as kits...which I did, individually, and let them all upgrade and fully load. This was using the plugin version inside Sonar. Seems I can also load and change individual drums as per normal. BUT In standalone mode, pre BFD3 presets wont load at all. And in VST mode pre BFD3 presets load...but without a kick. Again BFD3 scanned, saw and checked off all of my existing BFD stuffage. And I can load kits...just not presets. Or is this normal for BFD3?? -----------------------------NEVER MIND...............MAYBE....................... I see now that you have to load a kit first...and then you can load any preset you want. Or at least that's what I'm having to do. I cannot just open a new instance of BFD3 and load a preset. I have to load any old kit....and then I can, so far, load any preset which uses any other kit I want. Is this how BFD3 operates or just a lucky work-around??
