These comments are clearly from older folk trying to sound like they are down with the kids!

You might well pick up some good tips hanging out with the younguns in the music production crowd. Many of them are extremely versed in advanced mixing techniques and are producing music which is very well done in terms of things like instrument separation, management of bass frequencies, stereo imaging etc. Young brains learn quickly and unlike most of us at that age, they have had access to a wide range of advanced pro mixing tools from the get go, and know how to use them (almost unlimited access to educational material has helped). Of course not all of them are good, but I spend quite a lot of time checking out "amateur" mixes done by kids on YouTube and SoundCloud and much of it is radio-ready and of commercial quality.

I have no interest in the cloud thing. All I'm hoping is that this sale keeps Sonar alive for the foreseeable future, at roughly its present configuration. That way I can upgrade, whether free or paid, and no longer be stuck with Studio 8.5. Not that it doesn't work well, but I should have upgraded a long time ago,and I thought I missed my chance forever, until Bandlab came to the rescue. I don't exactly think they cater to the classical music crowd, let alone the old folks like us (in this thread I mean). So I'm just hoping to get a more current version of Sonar to love and cherish the remaining days of my life. Oh, and in full disclosure to the spirit of this thread, I'm 66. and I'm loving every minute of it.

Well I have had a bit more of a look around the BandLab site, and compared to my first look/impression, I found that you can probably find stuff/music and people closer to the mark than the "kilt it bro, dope stuff, sick man peeps" type, (not that there's anything wrong with that, just a different era) I come across some stuff that with a bit of polish could be quite good, I liked it anyway, the idea and the songs were there anyway, for me at least, just a little TLC required.
 
Might be a good thing after all, I guess it will surely grow and improve over time, interesting to see how it all pans out.
