Have you by chance seem any of Dan Mumm's videos on the You Rock Guitar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZqjhpFHEjo&feature=g-user-f&context=G227659cUCGXQYbcTJ33YGOBPL5Lne_cTDkw9V4Q83CHRvagTzZcc He's a lightning fast shredmaster that does things on the YRG that I feel really dispell any myths that the tracking is "bad" but I can understand that everyone has their own technique so it's really relative to each player I guess. I'd like to throw in the fact that you have to really approach it a bit differently than a traditional guitar and also the latest firmware update (which was released a few weeks ago) really made huge improvements.

bapu drewfx1 Or maybe you just don't rock? Inconceivable!TM But actually the other part of my question was serious - I'm curious if it doesn't track very well in an absolute sense, or if it tracks much worse than other midi guitars (which, though I'm using dated technology, I find pretty darn finicky)?

SVH, you're not related to the Van Halen brothers are you? (sorry, I couldn't resist asking).... Welcome to the CH forum. Have you used the YRG and tracked with it?

No Problem - I'm a distant VH cousin from the land of VON! :) yeah I have one that I use for allot of recording stuff and I've been really pleased with it. Looking at it from the standpoint of a midi controller it's been a Godsend for tracking world instruments like the Sitar, Violin, Yambur etc as opposed to being a guitarist stuck using a keyboard. That alone in my eyes makes it worth the cost and then add the fact that it has internal sounds, easily compacts for travel etc makes it something you can use in so many applications that I realize I've barely scratched the surface even though I use it daily. That's what sparked my interests in seeing what others do with theirs.

I understand there aren't any strings on this....how is it palyability-wise coming from a guitarists stand point? Does it respond well/accurately to your playing? I'm a huge fan of softsynths and would love to control them with a midi guitar. I wonder what tracking issues Bapu had?

True the strings on the neck are more like touchpads and I think that accounts for many peoples disdain over it not being a "real" guitar but they really made a great product for a guitarist to trigger midi sounds with. I had a Roland GR-33 and felt the tracking on that was bad because I couldn't play Yngwie Malmsteen on a piano patch without missing notes or getting double notes etc but then I realized you don't play a piano like a guitar. So to really replicate the sounds you are trying to trigger you have to play it like you would that instrument (the best that you can on a guitar anyway). Once I took that approach it made all the difference in the world. So with this it's the same, you have to play with some finesse and think like a player of the instrument you are sampling and then you start to see how well it really does track! I use mine with Reason, Garageband, Sampletank, etc. and it works great. If I need to track guitar for something and I feel it's not articulated on the YRG the way I like, I grab the Ibanez and lay it down. That's the thing it's not intended to replace your guitar but to enhance your experience as a guitarist by expanding your creative boundaries!
