All my downloaded sample libraries are on my NAS (Raid 0).

Why would you run a NAS on RAID 0?

It's been ages since I've backed-up!  I used to do it religiously, but I've been distracted lately.  I'm still planning on upgrading my surfing PC and my DAW, so I was planning to do a transfer to the new machine and keep the old drive as back-up.  I may have to rethink that.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

I always take it as a "sign" when a mate has a component failure that I need to be all over it for my systems.

happy to be of help!
So I went out and bought a 20 gigawatt internal thingy and I'm going stick it in my wotsit tonight.
Wish me luck - as you can tell, I'm not technically gifted

Somehow, I get the feeling there's a subliminal mesage in that last post and we're not even close talking about computers.......I'd wish you luck tonight, but it looks like you're already well set.

I literally just got the new hard drive in yesterday (FINALLY!!!).  I've got a lot of work still trying to figure out what I've lost...

SSD or the normal HD?
I just love my SSD (OS/Software) and how snappy/quick it is......my next SSD purchase will be for my samples drive (if the 1-3 TB drives come down in price).

I've got an SSD for one of my boot drives, but the drive that slowly corrupted itself (thereby causing me to backup corrupted files as well) was a 3TB drive.  I can't afford to buy a new drive yet so I had to copy and move files all over the place (most at USB 2 speeds) so some of the terabytes took 24-30 hours each to copy...

Heck, just running chkdsk on the bad disk took over 7.5 hours!

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

So it appears that recovering data from a pair of RAID 0 hard drives is pretty bloody tricky.

RAID 0 isn't really "RAID" as there's no Redundancy (the "R" in RAID).

It gives you potentially better performance by splitting the I/O across multiple drives, but if one of the drives goes bad there's no graceful way to recover from it.

If I attempt any sort of retrieval, I need to have both drives plugged in right?

Yes, you need both of the drives to try and get anything off of them.  It would be like having only the odd number pages of sheet music for a song.  It ain't gonna work.  I can think of a few songs where that may be an improvement.
