By making the Redbook layer of an SACD sound ridiculous, it gives the illusion that the SACD higher resolution version sounds better even under typical listening conditions where the higher resolution itself generally only buys you imaginary differences.
They might well be hoping that people will believe this is due to the "higher resolution" rather than different mastering and thus run out and buy the SACD versions of everything else they already own.
