Maybe you missed the flashback when Bran was watching him (as a youth) go into his "fit". We're supposed to understand (IMO) that Hodor, as a child, saw into the future and he was constantly foreshadowing.

Not quite - Hodor didn't see into the future. Bran, while visiting the past at the same moment the crisis was happening, was forced to do his take over Hodor warg thing such that Hodor was simultaneously affected in the past/present(s)/future because Bran was in two places at once.
 
Or sumptin like that.
