Well, I opened up the Microtrack. Pretty easy to get apart. Once you get the back cover off you'll immediately see the battery. It's a flat 2" X 2 1/4" pack... Nicad? Dunno. Anyway there's two circuit boards and the battery rests ontop of the back panel circuit board. There's two small screws you remove on the back circuit board, pop off the end panel that covers S/PDIF, Line Out's and USB. Then you can remove it to get to the second circuit board. The battery's +- leads are soldered to the second(front) circuit board. Any ideas on the battery and where to get one? I can't see paying M-Audio $75 for this.

Woah... this thread is from '08... how did it get here??

Post # 46 - which is gibberish,,   There's a lot of old threads being grave robbed by people with one digit post counts. I think they arrive via  Google. Cakewalk should make it just a little more complicated to sign up.

Do you have a Batteries Plus store anywhere nearby? The store by me is very helpful.

I was on that site this morning. It's a lithium battery pack. I found a few on Amazon that were fairly cheap. I think I'm going to experiment and see if I get one to power up the microtrack... it should work unless the battery isn't the problem. I also noticed Musiciansfriend has a few microtrack II's for  around $90 that need to be repaired but they don't specify what is wrong with them... just state they might be of interest to mechanically inclined individuals.

Edit:
The battery in the original Microtrack is a 3.7 volt 1200 mAhr lithium. It can be replaced with a first generation iPhone battery(1400mAhr lithium). The iPhone battery has a third white lead you don't need to hook up. I figure I'd put this info up for anybody who doesn't want to pay M-Audio $70 to replace a battery that you can find for $10-$20. Just make sure everything is taped or sealed so no wires touch and short out the battery. External power won't work once the battery is officially t*ts up... at least that's what I was told. I was using the energizer battery pack but mine will no longer power up. I'm hoping this is the reason. 3G and 4G batteries supposedly won't fit.

Well I'll be damned and please accept my apologies for the gratuitous posting. I just got my previously dead Microtrack to boot up and enter the charge cycle with a coin style 3v lithium battery. I snipped the leads to the dead battery, stripped the wires back, plugged in the battery pack to the usb connector, then touched the + - leads to the appropriate sides of the lithium battery and it booted into the charge cycle. I then pulled the leads off the lithium battery thinking it would shut off but it remained in the charge cycle with the Energizer battery pack connected. I touched the leads again to the lithium and hit the power button again and the firmware booted up fully operational. I again removed the leads from the battery and it's staying powered up with just the battery pack hooked up. Nice!

Gee, I wonder if the laptop I just tossed out had a 100% dead battery?
It was from 2004 and it would not run on the battery for more than 3 min. So I always kept it plugged in. A couple of weeks ago it would not turn on. Hmmm?
