Best way to create several guitar tracks
I'm using an octa capture to record my guitar and i'm struggling a bit with adding new tracks.
What is the best way to record let's say 6 guitars all using the Guitar Rig plugin. There has to be a better way than creating a new track each time and each track its own instance of Guitar Rig? Can i somehow create a new track without having to load the plugin again?
Also the input confuses me. I connect to the first input on my octa for the first track. But when i make a new track it uses the same input and it shows on both tracks. How do i seperate this without changing the cable to a new input every time?
Thanks!

Put your GR plug-in on a bus and either set the outputs of the 6 gtr tracks to that bus or insert a send an each track that points to that bus if you want the dry signal to still go somewhere else. The inputs don't matter, it's only going to record onto the track that you have armed for recording.

You can create the track with the plugin once and save that as a track template. In future you can just insert from track template and your track, plugin and any settings are their for you. Inserting an audio track in the first place is as easy as pressing just the Insert key Or in track view right click Insert Track nominate how many of what sort and away you go. It's worthwhile reading the online help. It's very thorough and will quickly prove to be a great resource Press F1 for help or got to the following link https://www.cakewalk.com/...t=SONAR&language=3

Yes that's right that's why I suggested the alternative figuring that you want a different treatment for each of your guitar tracks.
If for example you had finished your recording and wanted to do something that uniformly treated all you guitar tracks then you would send them to a bus.

Thanks but not sure if i understand you. Wouldn't this be the same as inserting a new track and a new Guitar Rig for each new guitar i want to record? The thing i want to avoid? Yes, i'm in the process of reading. It's iust so much and sometimes i can't figure out specific issues. Like the cable insert for instance as mentioned above. If i have 2 tracks with the cable in the first insert it uses both tracks when i play the guitar. It affects both tracks. How do i avoid that without moving my cable to the second insert of my octa capture?

I don't understand the alternative method you mentioned very well. Sorry.

That's the point. If you want different sounds for each guitar, then of course you need six instances of Guitar Rig if you want to have all of them adjustable and active. Or... you use only one instance and track, record guitar #1, and bounce the track, then clear or archive the original. Then change the sounds and record guitar #2 etc. That way you'd only have one instance of that resource hog VST active at a time. In this workflow you must remember to save the preset for each guitar in case you need to re-record something.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

you want to select comping mode. You start recordings doi you the then stop recording. When you next start recording Sonar will play over what's already been recorded on a different lane within the same track. When you expand track view there are 2 icons in the left lower corner. The left most icon toggles lanes view on and off. The following part of the help file should get you going. https://www.cakewalk.com/...elp=Recording.11.html#

Hmm right. Ok then how do i specifically point the guitar to a certain track so it won't affect other tracks? I just can't figure that out. If i create a new track it uses the same guitar as the previous track unless i insert my cable in the next free input in my octa. How can i create 6 guitar tracks while keeping my cable plugged into 1 input in the octa capture?

Also each track has an input and output widget where you can over ride any automatically chosen input.

Correct. Your OP gave me the impression that you didn't want multiple instances though. As has been said, track templates are your friend if you want GR to automatically be plugged in on a guitar track when you open one, but then you say that you don't want that either ? I'm not sure I'm following what you're asking any more. BTW GR is a bit of a cpu hog, so you might have to manage that situation a bit if you're going to have several instances working at once.

Doesn't that just say something like input 1 l/r input 2 l/r. That still doesn't tell me how to assign the guitar to 1 specific track so it doesn't affect other tracks.

Well apparently i'm forced to open a new guitar rig for each track i iust learned so that question is not valid anymore.

Answering your post #15 Yes, on the track into which you record you select the input you want. When you select 1 left it automatically stops being available for any other track.
You are going to run into problem though. daws do not record the fx. They record audio dry after which you have to bounce the audio. during this process the recorded audio is processed by the fx and converted to audio
Technically you could record your guitar once and process it through GR 6 different ways.

mudgel I think you need to tell us a little bit more about what it is you want to do.
I want to record 6 guitar tracks. Or 6 bass tracks or 6 keyboard tracks. I plug in 1 guitar to the first input of my octa. 1 bass to the second. A keyboard in the usb. I then start a track, i record the guitar. I then start a new track and record the bass guitar and start a new midi track and record the keyboard. Now i want to record another guitar track but this causes problems. I start a new track but now track 1 and 4 both use the guitar in my left octa capture input. It i play the guitar it shows in both tracks. It uses the settings from Guitar Rig from track 1. Same goes for any new track for the bass or keyboards. How do i avoid this without having to plug the guitar in yet another input? How do i seperate the guitar on 2 or more tracks with 1 input. Ok even more simple. Let's say your audio interface only has 1 single input. How the hell do you record 10 tracks with it. Because every new track will pick up the same guitar. So it will pick up the guitar rig from every single track instead of just the one you're working on.

I think if you're completely new to DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) then it would be good for you to spend a few days or weeks with the online help or if you've downloaded the help and tutorials files have a look around for a file they ends in *.chm.
I don't want to presume your level of knowledge but you seem a bit new to all this so forgive me as I don't want to sound condescending.

SONAR will only record to an armed track. In your situation with tracks 1/4 above, track 1 should no longer be armed, and should also have input echo disabled. I am presuming you have track 1's input echo on so you are hearing it. There is no need to change any input jacks on your audio interface, just be mindful of what you are telling SONAR to actually do.

Input echo is a specific button? Edit: oh i know what you mean. But then how do i record while playing back? I need to hear the other guitar from the old track sometimes when playing a new track.

mudgel Couldn't sleep. Thought I'd check in. Keep hanging in there do the tutorials over and over till you get it. Sounds really basic but in the early days I went back to them all the time. Even now when there's a special feature I don't use often comes up, I do some refreshing from the manual that's what it's there for. All the best
I will for sure. Thanks!
