I have no experience with the X32, but it looks like a great piece of kit. Would also love to hear about anyone using it with Sonar.

The X32 Mackie Control emulation does not work with Sonar at this time.

You can still use it as a 32 in 32 out recording board however - just no automation (which can be done in Sonar anyways).

I am hoping that someone has found a fix to this problem.  Don't know way cakewalk has not fix this problem being that its a software issue.

    Hi,

in the Behringer-Forum (http://forum.behringer.com/showthread.php?216-X32-amp-Sonar) it is also discussed and Behringer contacted Cakewalk to fix the Problem (look at post 2). But it seems that Behringer has no answer from Cakewalk yet.

Hope this problem will be fixed as soon as possible. It is not good for the image of Sonar, when all DAW's exept Sonar support such a good device.

    Hi,

maybe here is a solution  (http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2679018), just choose the VS-700 as the controller and use USB 2.0. This Topic is also refered in the Behringer-Forum as a solution, if I translate the spanish answers correct. Just try it.

I dont own the x32, but maybe this issue is related to this:

When you use the Mackie Control surface in Sonar, Sonar issues a sysex MIDI request command Out the MIDI Out Port you specified in the surface setup in Sonar.
It repeats issuing this sysex and displays "connecting..." until it receives a sysex answer at the in port you specified in sonars surface setup.

After sonar received the sysex answer the mackie control surface works communicating via the in/out ports.

So it seems the x32 does not send this sysex answer upon sysex request received from sonar. It's the same with NI Maschine in Mackie Control template Midi mode.

If somebody is interested I could look up the sysex mid command and provide a step by step explanation on how to get this working using Bome Midi Translator and LoopMidi. I for example use Maschine in Mackie Control mode to control sonar, using MidiTools which simulates the MCs display in a window.

My guess is that this would work with the x32, too.

    Hi TabSel,

    I hope all is well

If you now have Bone Midi Translator configuration files to fix the X32 / X2 connectivity issue, I would appreciate your help.

    Thanks much!

Hi.  We've been in contact with Behringer about this.  It's a problem we have with a few Mackie emulators.  There are a few ways to DAW<->MCU handshake.  We use one and Behringer uses another.  It's the same issue with Maschine.  We're looking into a solution.

    Hi all...

Well, it's June 10th, 2013...there have been numerous posts of people concerned about SONAR communicating with the Behringer X32 as a control surface via Mackie Control. Since I've searched the web for any progress in this matter (not finding much of anything), I'm curious...if this is simply a handshake problem, why can't there be a simple software patch for X32 users that will allow SONAR users to use the X32 as a control surface? I've been using SONAR for quite a long time (all the way from SONAR 6 to currently SONAR X1 Producer), but now I'm beginning to think that it's time to switch. Are we still 'looking into a solution', or are we actively creating one?

    Regards...Jim

The X32 does look good and someone I know is enjoying his in live mixing scenarios. Not convinced about it for DAW work without transport control....could always add a dedicated transport device but seems the X32 is better geared for live work?

Unfortunately it does seem like Cake and control surfaces are becoming a thing of the past unless they are slowly working in the background to get this important issue sorted...while some of us start to look over our shoulders so to speak?

I use my x32 producer with the mackie control xt and it works just fine, have you tried both mackie protocols in your DAW?

Welcome integralanomaly! Yep - working for all of us now:) The green text at the top of each post indicates the date. This thread is two and a half years old. Love my X32's. A fun piece of kit:)

Love the sound quality of the x32 digital rack and linking up track to track was fantastic.  Somehow after downloading upgrades I now only have odd inputs 1 right left and stereo, 3, 5 7 to 15 listed in my in/outs.  Drivers only show odd numbers as well.  Behringer support easy to reach by phone SONAR x3 Producer - help??????

Hey HumNstrum. You are only supposed to see the odd numbers. Your desk is working correctly. The inputs and outputs are listed in stereo pairs. 1L=1, 1R=2, 3L=3, 3R=4 etc. I can't recall if there is a setting in Sonar to select ' show mono outputs' (I am not in my studio), but it is not neccesary. Rest assured all is working as it should be.

Yes, select "show mono outputs and it will give it to you in pairs.  ex, 1-2L  1-2R  1-2Stereo.
