who in their right mind would put raisins in biscuits and then put gravy on them????  yuck!!

I would not put raisins in biscuits either. Although, sausage gravy is good on a cinnamon raisin bagel.  I know, I'm wierd like that. Sausage gravy is not that easy to make unless you know what your doing. Great stuff to have every once and a while.

believe me.  I KNOW what I'm doing when it comes to makin' sausage gravy!  I was makin' sausage gravy when I was 7 years old!  and home made biscuits aren't for the amatuer either!

I've  never tried making biscuits. I'm sure I could but don't know what recipe to use. There are tons of them out there.
you're right, there are a lot of different "recipes" - I was taught to make biscuits by my grandmother who's no longer with us.  the way she made biscuits was steeped in tradition passed down from her family.  she had a very large metal pan that she kept "biscuit flour" in.  it was probably the size of a very large roasting pan and was pretty much full of flour.  she'd sift and add baking powder to a part in the middle which was "indented" - or a "hole" in the middle of the flour.  then she'd "fold" crisco shortening in with her hands (no utensils!), then she'd pour buttermilk into the hole in the middle and knead with her hands until uniform.  each of the shortening and buttermilk additions were PER BISCUIT - one biscuit mixed at a time.  they were huge biscuits, tho, probably 4" or more across.  each one as it was mixed would be placed in a crisco layered baking pan and they were put in with sides touching.  she'd make about 20 of them at a time in a large baking pan (we had 3 families that lived all on the same property and usually ate a lot of our meals together).

the biscuits would fluff up and bake into each other and oh, man....I gotta stop!!!!  they were SO good!!!!

Very similar to the ones my dad learned from his mamaw.  I'll stop here, neither of us need the aggravation...

I forgot to mention that you have to brush them with oil during baking....
