Thank you everyone for the nice feedback. It means a lot to me, especially since this is my only attempt at the genre.

As for the Beastie Boys influence, it's interesting how people picked up on that, especially since I've never heard a Beastie Boys song. Could it be that the same artists that influenced me had an influence on them? There's one direct rip off of a CCR song in it and the song I had in mind while arranging it was Fried Hockey Boogie by Canned Heat.

Thanks again,

Bub.

This ain't no rap it's a rock toon.

So how come folks don't know how to critique a rock toon.

Really nice rhythm tone clean but crunchy kinda.  The bass sounds a bit too pristine and polite on the intro but it all fits together nicely into a pretty cool arrangement.

I can't hear the words but I'm not going to critique anyones vox until I'm in a position where I'm qualified to do that. I'll read the words back at the CH

Yup I reckon more Joan Jett than Jay-Z but none the worse for that.

Hey, Bub,

Very original and very cool song!  Nice crunchy guitars, great playing, smooth synth work, perfect vocals for the style, and a wide, clean mix.

Nicely done, have a good one!

considering that Bub has been banned (which you can tell by looking at the little red "person" icon beside his login name) I don't think he'll be responding here.  at least not until his banning is over, however long that may be.

the last thing I knew was that he and zungle were trading insults in the CH over a political thread and they got out of hand.  a moderator locked the thread and made a statement about them "cooling off for a week" or something to that matter.

Sorry about the link being broken. I moved some files around in folders in my Box.net account and apparently the links change when you do that.

I just logged in to check for PM's. If anyone wants to contact me, my email address is in my public profile.

Take care ...

Bub.

I fixed the broken link (see post #1 on this thread). Something got corrupted on Box.net and I had to re-upload it. Some links to my music work and some don't. Not sure what happened? This is the only one I fixed.

This is cool! But I agree with morenoise. It was more Beastie Boys than real rap. But hey, you aren't black, so the classic gangsta rap formula (huge bass, drum loops, claps, little to no singing) doesn't need to be applied here. Especially since you said this is so far out of your genre. Hahaha. This sounded great, though!

Ok bub I like the tune but it meanders a little, it needs focus, the instumental parts go on a little to long but this is a producers (me) preference.

The mix is excellent but the drum transients are a little thin, once again though this is a mix/mastering engineers (me) preference.

Excellent and I don't even normally like Rap.

Wow! This thread is back from the dead! That's gotta be some kind of record isn't it? It's been dead since May. :)

Thanks for listening and the replies.

Snyder ... yeah it was quite a departure from what I normally do. It was refreshing to do something so radical. :)

Ben ... you are right about it being a little long in spots. I lucked out on getting the mix as good as I did and I was afraid to touch it after that. :) There are two layers on the drums ... one is loops from X1, and the other is me playing along using the drum pads on my old Alesis drum machine to trigger the 808 samples in Session Drummer 3. The rolls at the end are live (so to speak) to give it a more natural feel.

That second lead part that repeats at the end is the only thing original to the song and was actually the first break where I ended up putting The Munster's Theme song. I worked and tweaked and messed with this for months and threw out everything I did except that lead and it was hard fitting it in to the song after the fact.

I'm particularly fond of the backward cymbals of all things. :)

I wonder if they play this in the offices at Cake? HEHE! :) Someone likes it, it's got over 250 downloads ...

This was cool. Beat had an 80's to '93 kinda sound with some '93 to '97 synths on top of it. A little Beastie Boys and a little Run DMC. Rap was very rock (more red hot chili peppers than hiphop) but performed well. And no you definitely do not need to autotune rap or hip-hop, only hit-pop.

Sadly very reduced studio equipment as it is... ASUS G750J, 8 gb RAM, Win8, Roland Quad Capture.
