It's unlikely that CW will create any restrictions on the forum. The reason the forum was started in the first place (aside from user-to-user support) was to increase the customer user base, so CW probably isn't going to want to restrict people from interacting here.

So why have a TOS? Why have moderators? It's obvious what happens when controls aren't used.

Right now the place is flooded with idiots (no I'm not talking about you that still attempt "wit" and "humor"- I'm in favor of practice...although there is a time and place for that so the performance is maybe better) and embarrassing examples of how they control;
Bub is banded but I never heard him make perverted comments toward children as that freak in Jbows thread- and that ass is still active.

For those that care and are paying attention this place has become a ****hole. Yeah it bothers me but until Cake gets their act together...I'm done. Fortunately this BS is something I do have control over.

First of all, I understand your frustrations - I've been in your shoes in the past. My comments are based on my dealings with CW regarding this forum. They do want to use it as one large advertising web site for their product, to increase customers - that's why they moved from a newsgroup to a web forum - with the added benefit of users helping users, which cuts down on their support costs. Of course, that's not specific to CW... many companies do this.

The TOS is a set of rules for the forum members - but it's not a commitment by CW to do anything about violators of the rules.

But because they are wanting as many people as possible to visit here and become customers, they have always seemed hesitant to making any restrictions here. I think some of the above suggestion are worth considering, but I have my doubts that CW will implement them. From what I have seen they have always operated on the premise of putting as little effort as possible into maintaining this forum while wanting maximum exposure from it.

From all outward appearances the forums at Cakewalk are a secondary thing. And wouldn't you rather those guys be out working  to improve the product over policing the forums with an iron fist? Cakewalk doesn't have a full time forum moderator. It looks like Seth got the responsibility and a big one it is. This means that after all of his other responsibilities he gets a little time to peek at the forums, and it's not like most of us who comment or simply browse. When he comes onboard there is work to be done, fires to put out and maybe software issues and adjustments to be made. I think most forums are like this, part time ventures either financed by companies to encourage discussion in their line of interest or started by individuals who have an interest and want to help bring people together admittedly sometimes for financial interest.

Given the conditions we have I think things have come along well. No forum anywhere will ever be immune to spammers and server attacks. It seems to come with the territory. Just as soon as you figure out the attack and put a stop to it another one will come along and unfortunately the bad guys are always thinking of new ways to exploit and destroy.

I can't see the forum ever having the slogan, " This is an eternally secure area".

Maybe I'm more of a realist but I say we roll with it the best we can. Most of us will have flagged a bad post within the first 5 minutes and Seth seems to be able to follow up on it pretty fast considering.

Well they are getting the traffic. By the condition of the forums I'd say it's deserving.
I also doubt that they will implement Craigs suggestion. It's to good.
I'm seeing the same as you- as little effort as possible, and it shows.

"policing with iron fist" are your words. Nobody has suggested such.
You haven't read or understood what's been written.

I said I was done complaining about the condition here. I am. I think the forums are in the condition they deserve to be in. I'm not out to change the world or this place. My opinion has been stated and I stand by it.
My bewilderment and disgust at seeing how some things can take place without people screaming at the top of their lungs and a company not implementing simple controls such as Craig suggested -is just that-mine.
If perverts directing their remarks towards children on this forum is fine by the members and the company then at the least I'm very glad to know that and a little curious to see just how disturbing it can become.
I realize that many want to redirct that point to "spammers" but I could care less of how many kitchen cabinet makers from England advertise here. Maybe they need new kitches for all I know and I know we have members living there...what I didn't realize was that maybe we have some pedophiles too. My bad.

Unfortunately it took days to remove. I'm very glad it's gone.

Not really directed at you personally Spacey. Just my observations.

I certainly don't condone anything regarding the post you  mentioned. My main point being that intentions are good but time is limited.People are spread too thin everywhere.

I simply gave two extremes..we seem to be in the middle somewhere.

I'm glad I didn't see the post you mentioned. I think you have a very legitimate concern. If I had the power I would have deleted it so fast it would make your head spin.

I'm glad you didn't see it too. I wish I hadn't. I almost busted veins in me brain pan. I'm just really glad the ass wasn't sitting across the table from me.
Oh well....not my problems.

Oh...careful Star...the thread is still here and the ass is still a member....but Bub isn't. Figure that one out.

Absolutely not. We have yet to see trolls from Avid. I kind of enjoy trolls.
The madder one makes them the shorter they get...and their teeth start falling out...and their heads start getting flat...so if you tickle them when they get about waist high they're very accomodating and also a perfect place to set ones beer.

Disgusting, YES of course. NONE of it is fine (spammers, trolls and such). You get these horrible problems happening publicly on the Internet, not only here but on hugely popular social sites frequently visited by children.

In regards to this thread -- Others have contributed reasonable suggestions. At the very least Cakewalk has some measures in place but IMO there needs to be further tightening of the validation system in regards to all new members (Did you read my post?)

Having a readily accessible  separate forum for low-life scum-bags is not going to resolve the problem either, because these posts will still go public and listed in search eng results --  it's like rolling out the welcoming mat for low-life scums to build-up their search engine rankings.... that said, I'm in agreement with what Dave said (in part/excerpt) of his post....

bitflipper

So we're suggesting a sub-basement, a lower level even than the CH? And then invite the world in? That would be a neighborhood I wouldn't want to visit after dark.

So, in addition to my suggestions, make ALL forums 'invisible' unless logged in ---> with the exception of the Baker's 'read-only' tips, videos, a clear message in regards to; Strict Registration Requirements, TOS and useful read-only (and non-linkable) display of news, recent topics (support topics) to show recent activity, basically show newbies an idea of what to expect in regards to support -- solutions.

Considering above said; Your suggestion that "only customers who have purchased Cakewalk products can post" is not necessary, and not in the best interest for Cakewalk to get new customers because --- what I have suggested is;

(1) a stricter signup/validation process for all new signups (new members) and unless logged in.... (2) make the forums invisible except for.... (3) if not logged in, display only 'useful/support' based content and such as explained earlier.  (4) all newbies (under 30 posts) can only start new threads in a forum titled for example: New Members Pre-Sales Questions, FAQ and Help Forum. ((this forum along with all other forums are invisible until logged in))! Newbies (under 30 posts) cannot post links and images in any other forums. The Baker's can explain why; due to spammers, trolls and such... this particular warning/TOS message can appear whilst in post/new thread mode)!

I don't but of course there are some newbies who signup and post after having a bad week or two, frustrated, furious, so pumped up with rage and ready to implode... but first reply to OP suggest a very, VERY simple solution. Now rage suddenly turns to embarrassment followed by, thanks and apologies and oh wow SONAR is cool, I'm loving it.

Yes, I read.

I don't have the solution. In fact I wonder if there is a problem.
It's their game, their rules. Personally as I've said...it's good to see how a company and people conduct themselves.

Maybe they'll read and get some ideas from what you and others have offered...maybe not.
