CAKEWALK ! Thank You!
I appreciate you taking care of that. I hope folks with the know-how can do something about stuff like that.

I've thought this too, in the past, from time to time as I watch spammers come in to the forums and post all sorts of junk. However, while I could possibly agree to that requirement, that folks be a registered user, I also have seen so many folks come to the forums to ask questions of the users here before they buy the product. Folks just wanting to be sure that Cakewalk's product line will work for their intended purposes. How would you suggest those folks be accommodated?

Cake better be a hell of lot more concerned about the people that do buy their product. Those that don't own it can download a free trial version. If that doesn't tell them enough then they're to stupid to use it anyway and end up loading the forums with their dumb-ass questions. We know that's a fact.

Simple. You have ONE forum that is open to "Guest" questions (and heavily watched by moderators - not hard if there's only one forum to keep an eye on). All others are read-only unless you have a registered product (so people can still search and hopefully find any answers they're looking for).

I really like this idea. and it's very "do-able" I've resisted forum restrictions to registered users before because I would not have become a cakewalk customer if I had to have registered software FIRST. but this idea would solve both problems.

Well perhaps they just need an enhancement to the forum program that would block out a certain IP address. (after the first time). ?? Can't have Freedom then if everything has to be shut down. It is an inherent fault of computers I guess we all have to live with.

that's pretty much standard on all forums - to be able to block IP addresses. however, that's a REACTIVE fix, not a PREEMPTIVE fix.

There's a website the keeps the names & IP's of known spammers. It's easy to check someone new against the website and simple to submit new spammer names & IP's to keep their database up-to-date. Some of the newest forum softwares can evidently auto-check this though I haven't been on a forum that does this yet.

I'm glad I don't know you guys. I was very upset about a disgusting post. Then you try to make fun of the way I say it. That's not funny, it's insulting. But Cake finally removed the post and member...glad it's done.

Really. Let me know when they start. If you bought it, you're already assimilated and don't matter anymore. They want new blood, new money. Haven't you noticed? Maybe it's the Comcast business plan.

Have I noticed? Yes. But the money end of doing business with Cake is nothing. Ethics is worth so much more and in my eyes that has been a big loss suffered by more than the people working at Cake. It's not unknown by many members that a lot of good people have left...what I think, is that a lot of people aren't sure why and that really is the easy part....and it's not about money.

So we're suggesting a sub-basement, a lower level even than the CH? And then invite the world in? That would be a neighborhood I wouldn't want to visit after dark. I still like the distributed moderation solution. Let anybody with more than, say, 17,815 posts move a thread to the sub-basement dungeon. If any such users proved themselves unworthy of that power, such as dumping anything they considered "unfunny" down there, their post counts could be zeroed out in retaliation.

It's unlikely that CW will create any restrictions on the forum. The reason the forum was started in the first place (aside from user-to-user support) was to increase the customer user base, so CW probably isn't going to want to restrict people from interacting here.

Not sure if this forum software supports stricter validation process, otherwise have a pre-signup process before the actual forum signup for new members, a 2-step process -- This would then require 'Valid' home address, phone number, additional phone number (mobile/cell - optional) and zip code. Then allow 24 hours for process and the first 30 posts can only be posted in a "New Members Support and Pre-Sales Questions Forum" with a St(r)icky- Topic explaining why -- (Spammers and Trolls). Also, The link to the forum is too clearly labelled as;' Cakewalk Forums', {uh oh} what about being a little more discreet -- List the link to these forums under another link-header >> {next Page} >> List of Options and oh yeah included in that list is a more discreet title = '{Title}-Signup' (NOT titled: Cakewalk Forums) however, only existing and new customers who have purchased Cakewalk product(s) will receive Emails with a more direct link.

So why have a TOS? Why have moderators? It's obvious what happens when controls aren't used. Right now the place is flooded with idiots (no I'm not talking about you that still attempt "wit" and "humor"- I'm in favor of practice...although there is a time and place for that so the performance is maybe better) and embarrassing examples of how they control; Bub is banded but I never heard him make perverted comments toward children as that freak in Jbows thread- and that ass is still active. For those that care and are paying attention this place has become a ****hole. Yeah it bothers me but until Cake gets their act together...I'm done. Fortunately this BS is something I do have control over.

spacey ... It's time that Cake requires that a poster has to have a registered Cakewalk product before they can post. ... Are you implying that a Cake/Sonar owner is not a spammer, or would never spam? On to the next story in our newscast, Homer is putting on DREAM ON and says that it is his theme song for a minute!
As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!
