Just a quick question: how many of the posters in this thread have put this in via the feature request form?

Yes please please PLEASE bring it back. This is one of the subtle features that make SONAR a premier DAW. No clue why it was changed in the first place.  ???

Just a quick question: how many of the posters in this thread have put this in via the feature request form?

This is exactly what needs to be done.  if you want this feature you should not try to rely on a user forum thread to get cakewalk to implement a desirable feature.  use the feature request.  the more members who do this, the more likely it is to be implemented.

I haven't but as I said I'm using a bright folder line colour so I'm not that bothered whether indents come back or not. It is a good point though. Those that really want it need to do it via the features request.

use the feature request. the more members who do this, the more likely it is to be implemented.

Unfortunately, this probably ain't so.

In order to keep feature requests and bug reports organized, most developers limit any particular issue to one record in the problem-tracking database. Duplicate requests are therefore routinely closed with a status of "duplicate". I've never seen an option in such software for polling, e.g. keeping track of how many duplicates come in.

This is one case where moaning on the forum might actually do some good, assuming anyone with influence at CW actually reads forum posts. We know they do, and not just because the marketing guys reply regularly.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

interesting, dave.  I'm not in a commercial software industry (or commercial world at all, really), so that kind of surprises me, I guess.  I also thought I had read one of the mods say that as well, tho, that more reports of the same thing = more visibility and possibility of getting it implemented increases.

even if there's not a poll per se, there's still someone or some group who has to review each request.  if they delete all duplicates - those who delete the duplicates should still get a "feel" for how popular a particular feature would be.  these may not be the developers of the code, but they should have access to those developers.  so this would be an informal (albiet prone to flaw) poll.

Oh, ok.

I mean, the actual staff of the actual company keep saying, quite clearly, that the way to get attention for your issues is via the bug reporter and the feature request form. I guess they wouldn't really know, they're only the staff.

Meanwhile, I suppose for some kinds of people, it's more fun - if your idea of fun is complaining - is to take your complaints to somewhere the actual staff of the actual company have said they won't be likely to be paid attention to. That way you can hang onto your complaint forever. Sounds great. Really, it does.

That reminds me of a good story I'm sure some of you have seen already..........

This is a story about four people: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important bug report / feature request to be put in and Everybody was asked to do it.
Everybody was sure Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when actually Nobody asked Anybody.

Sorry, can someone explain what the feature is under discussion?  If we are talking about the Inspector on the left in Track view, what folders are in question?  Happy to give you a +1 vote, but don't know what you mean.

In the past, before X1 track folders had the tracks in that folder offset a bit to clearly show the tracks that belonged to that folder. Not unlike the way Windows Explore does it for subfolders. This let the user know with a glance what belonged to what.

Its so ironic that the GUI design of X1 "wastes" so blatantly screen space in some occasions and then removes the indent of folders' content as if it was wasting screen space.

I do agree with this completely--I was just thrown off by the term "inspector" used on another similar thread which makes me think of the area to the left of the track list.  If this means to indent the tracks under a track folder, that is absolutely the way to go.  The current arrangement is goofy.

I wonder what kind of process the software goes through in terms of usability before a small change like this is "ok'd".
It's a detail, but obviously ppl love it when it's there.  I wonder if people who test the software said the same thing.
Either way, glad ppl on the inside are down for the change :)

I'm glad that someone on the Cake team is not only aware of the problem but agrees with the rest of us that the feature needs to be reinstated.

Thanks Seth, for chiming in at least.

As long as it doesn't end up doing what happened in 8.5.3, where track/folder names don't line up, which (to me) looks messy.

I'm using a bright folder line colour so I'm not that bothered whether indents come back or not.

One more thing you can do along these lines is to change the color of the Folder Clip Background. This puts a bright (if you like) wide bar across the whole clips pane separating the folder's tracks.
