[CWBRN-24456] - Track folder Open/Close button issue
Compared to the two issues I mentioned previously, this one is trivial and can be easily fixed (temporarily) with a few extra mouse clicks (or more depending on the number of track folders in the project). But because it happens so often, I hope it will be given higher priority over other trivial issues. What is the issue? After switching back from another screenset or reloading the current screenset, if you click the "-" button on one of the open track folders then it closes many (if not all) of them at once, or, in contrast, if you click the "+" button on one of the closed folders it opens many/all of them at once, depending on the state of the buttons at the time you saved and locked the screenset. The issue is also observed right after the project is loaded. See how the buttons are not functioning properly. The open/close button on the 2nd and 3rd (and 4th) folders show "-" although the folders actually contain tracks and are closed. The button will change to "+" if you click it once, and the folder will open if you click it again (i.e. extra click needed). Who are affected by this issue?I guess all X3 users who use track folders and switch screensets often (the bug was introduced in X3). What CWBRN# is it?CWBRN-24456 Why is the issue so serious? Not serious but annoying (sorry) because it happens in every project (i.e. happens everyday), and it used to work fine (in X2 at least). Any other comments? There are a few other track folder issues (see below), which I hope will be fixed as well if time allows, although the only one that affects my workflow among them is the first one (archive button). Track Folder's Archive button fully lights up ignoring unarchived tracks (CWBRN-23756) http://forum.cakewalk.com/Track-Folders-Archive-button-fully-lights-up-ignoring-unarchived-tracks-Confirmed-by-CW-m2998330.aspx#2998418 Locked screensets forget the size of track folders (CWBRN-22215) http://forum.cakewalk.com/Locked-screensets-forget-the-size-of-track-folders-CWBRN22215confirmed-by-CW-m2967239.aspx#2967570 Dragging a track into an empty track folder changes the order of folders (CWBRN-23697) http://forum.cakewalk.com/Dragging-a-track-into-an-empty-track-folder-changes-the-order-of-folders-Confirmed-by-CW-m2995673.aspx#2995673 Thank you

it's always a good idea to report bugs. But I can tell you from working for a software company for 7 years, there are ALWAYS going to be bugs! Some are more serious than others. I've had this discussion in another thread but frankly I don't know of ANY showstoppers in X3. Yes, there are bugs: (I use the Roland VS700 interface and every time I open a new session some of the very important functions aren't saved from the last. I found out that if I then re-open- without saving- everything is good. A bug, yes. But I manage to get through my day. One of the "bummer bugs" is in the SI Bass! When I bounce it to audio there's seems to be a random offset of up to 20- or so- samples. The audio definitely does NOT line up with the midi notes making it un-useable if I'm in a hurry!).
Now granted I may not use Sonar like everyone else. For example, I never use the step sequencer. I very rarely use track folders. But I do use it to make a living!

We have collected over 60 issues so far that are reproducible in X3E. Some will be show stoppers for some people and others will be totally happy. Others will find them annoying, some very annoying and some could not give a monkeys. Some people won't even know they are effected until they've read about the bug (blissfully unaware). Regardless we have collected over 60 issues and some of them are very important to peoples workflow. I would not blanket them all to be irrelevant or easily worked around.
The question is what is an acceptable in terms or impact and quantity. Not just for you... But for other people with different workflow. So everybody will have their opinion but to have an informed opinion look at the list I've compiled and the threads linked to it would be a start. Then try and stand back and take an objective view away from what your own workflow might be.
Yes there will always be bugs! Everybody knows that :) However the OP here was quite specific with his issues here and what was effecting him.
Cheers.

There are heaps of these display error bugs with track folders. I do understand prioritizing showstoppers and all that bizzle, but shouldn't ALL bugs eventually get addressed? Otherwise you end up like Cubase did way back when they accumulated to the point they had to tear it all out and rebuild. Besides, you slowly address the backlog and then the new ones come up and there won't be so many! It's a little discomforting to have these be brought up and obviously acknowledged but blown off to never be addressed.

From what I understand Cakewalk has not confirmed or denied an X3F. In their favour they have released 5 service packs recently so from past observations I am hopeful that there would be some resolution of this at least by the end of the year. Cheers...

I can confirm that there are huge inconsistencies with the '+' & '-' buttons on the Track folder headers. This has been around since X1 I believe.

If the issue was just the inconsistencies with the + and - buttons then I wouldn't have brought it up here. The real issue, as I mentioned in the OP, is that when you switch back from another screenset and click the +/- button on one of the folders it also opens/closes other folders. This issue was introduced in X3. Try the following steps in X1, X2 and X3. Only X3 shows the unexpected behavior. 1. Create a new project. 2. Insert 20 tracks. 3. Pack the tracks into 4 track folders (5 tracks per folder, for example) 4. Close all the folders and lock the current screenset. 5. Open all the track folders you've just closed. 6. Switch to another screenset, then switch back. Make sure all track folders are shown closed, as expected. 7. Click the open/close folder button on one of the folders to open the folder.

My No.1 issue was fixed in the latest version and No.2 was discussed a lot recently by Lord Tim and Keni. So, now, allow me to remind the Bakers of this No.3 issue that's still occurring (reproducible in Platinum) and still slows down my workflow EVERY TIME I work in Sonar. I really wonder why this issue isn't brought up by others. It's supposed to affect pretty much anyone who uses track folders.

I still suffer from this issue every time I use the program. Is it so difficult to fix? I don't think so because the buttons were working properly in X1 and X2.
