Cakewalk Command Center...is this really happening?

I just purchased a version of Sonar, but this Command Center thing wants to install the program to my solid state drive with no option to install things to another directory.  Who wrote this program? This isn't the 1990's.  People have multiple drives now. Enough complaining...

I would be greatly appreciative if there is anyone out there with a solution to this problem. I would like to install Sonar to another directory other than the default "C" drive.  Thanks ahead of time.

I already complained about this.  Not very bright for a Software company...but it is what it is...

No..there is, at present, no way to install where you want it to go...

Hopefully in one of the updates (if they are wise)

Aww. That's unfortunate.  I guess I won't be installing the program then. Maybe I have time for a refund until this is fixed? Thanks for the help.

just use the command center to download the installers but don't use it to install, run the installer manually and it's the same as it was before.

The parts that must go to the C drive aren't all that big.

You have the choice to install the bulk of the software to other drives, just not through the Command Center.

See this thread for instructions on doing that.  Particularly message #13.

I guess the main factor here is that none of that should be necessary...
XLN made the same mistake with their Online Installer when it first
went live, but it was corrected rather quickly....we'll see how quickly Cake gets it addressed...

Incidentally, Pro Tools 11 is the same way, you get no option for where to install.
I find it hard to comprehend that software companies will STILL do this...it's
ridiculous...especially in today's multi-hard drive, mulit-boot, multitasking world...

I also very much want stuff to go where want it to go.  I believe the argument is, and I seem to recall it coming directly from a Cakewalk representative (and I'm paraphrasing), is that not having the option prevents the uninitiated from screwing things up [and then bothering Cakewalk to get help repairing things].  I can sort of understand that, but I'd really like to have an 'advanced' and maybe hard-to-get-to option through which I could have complete control.

Maybe now's the time, since the CCC is there for those that want it simple.  All that is needed is for the separate installers to now allow all destinations to be specified.  I have a feeling though that some parts of Sonar aren't programmed to be able to look elsewhere for what they need.

Do the installer download from your online account and then run them individually. That will give full control. If you already have used the CCC to install Sonar etc then just click on the gear icon to find where the installers were downloaded to.

To this day I've thought it's necessary to have the core program on the same HDD as the OS for reliable functioning.
I've assumed it's more like a rule still with any complicated software.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

This isn't cakewalk support these are user forums, cakewalk chimes in when they can. At the time of your post the thread was only 7 hours old and it's about 9am in Boston right now. I wouldn't say incredible, rather they were in bed.

Nah, I'm not complaining that they arent replying to my question but this seems like a question that has been posted by tons of people in the forum since the launch of the new Sonar. Thats why I think its a bit strange. I know this isnt a support forum.

From memory I think they said they were working on improvements to command centre on another thread.
This isn't a bug (and there is a workaround) but do I agree with everybody else. I would put something in the feature and ideas forum (or vote on it if somebody already has).

Re: Cakewalk Command Center...is this really happening? 2015/02/04 09:47:49 (permalink)
I also complained about this issue. There isn't even a way to uninstall DimPro and Dimension once installed (either via C3 or Add/Remove Programs). So even if one can manually run the installers and pick a destination, if you happened to make the mistake of initially going through C3, you are screwed.

Saying they don't want noobs to get screwed isn't an excuse. This is an advanced application often running on dedicated systems with very specific drive configurations, so it should give you these options.

I also noticed the fact that CW is silent on this issue. There was a thread that talked about some general C3 issues, and there were multiple replies from CW, even from Noel. But as soon as this issue came up, silence...

Cheers...

I also have an SSD dedicated for software only and I installed everything via CCC in there. Is there a (simple) way to move all the samples (Dim Pro, Rapture, Loops etc...) into another designated samples drive? While letting CCC also know where to install its updates?

Re: Cakewalk Command Center...is this really happening? 2015/02/04 10:23:04 (permalink)
At the moment I have Dim Pro, Rapture etc installed without CCC (they show red lights right now). I don't think CCC is actually managing the installations right now so I wouldn't worry about it much (maybe Cakewalk can clarify). I just CCC as a launch pad at the moment. So you could move them yourself. There are plenty of threads here on how to move samples around etc for each soft synth (you need to update the registry) if you google them...

I was lucky enough that Sonar kept my X3E settings when I upgraded so I didn't have to do this. With X3E I did have to hack the registry to move these samples around as well.

Cheers

The easiest way to solve the problem is to let things install where they want to go, then symbolic link them to wherever you want.

Concessions for new users is good but it shouldn't be too hard to set up SONAR and your system the right way. I have wanted all the 32 bit only stuff to be clearly marked or in a separate folder cuz I don't want it. This has moved the wrong direction. I have no doubt this will be fixed and am aware there are work arounds. The newbies might have it working but there are a lot of people here who know what to do and how to do it and they are scratching their heads.
