Only averaging 201kb from Cake. The Ocean Way drum kit downloaded in under two minutes at over a MB a second.
That's just a PDF file detailing the different drum sets found in the new SD3. The actual samples come bundled in the Sonar 8.5 installation file.
Just to clarify...
The pdf file is a voucher to get a free drum set from downloadablesoundz.com
Thanks for clarifying that PaPi. First, I thought James was referring to the pdf file as being the actual drum samples. Then, with the excitement of having just installed Sonar 8.5, I didn't even care to open the pdf file and assumed it was just a detailed description of the drum samples included in SD3. My bad guys! I'm just enojoying this too much I guess :-)

Jose7822, so did it also come with everything else that was in 8 like Dimension Pro? Does it include everything that was a part of the 8.3.1 update like the contents? i hope 8.5 doesn't leave out anything that was a part of 8.
No, this download just replaces the first installation DVD. IOW, if you were to install Sonar 8.5 from scratch, you would skip the Sonar 8.0 installation DVD and install Sonar 8.5 instead. Then proceed with the other DVD's as normal. I'm assuming you also need to install the Beatscape 1.02 update plus the extra sample content update they did a while back. But this is only an assumption. Hopefully Cakewalk can clear this up for us.

Not in this universe, usually. It has been some time since Cakewalk has reduced the price of an upgrade. I just recently saw 8PE upgrade from 7PE for $179. That is what I paid back in October 2008. It's $99 now and it will most likely be $99 (unless they have started a new marekting strategy for downloads).

How do we get both Download and DVD media, I don't see an option for both.

On the upgrades tab on the link in post 11 here for the price mentioned you get both the download of 8.5 and dvd's as well - at least that's how I understand it. Something I don't have to worry about anyways as my computer is below the minimum specs for processor (2.53 GHz P4) and right at min spec for ram (1 gig which is the max my machine can take). And I can't afford to get a new machine.

If you already have an open email item with Customer Support, resend a reply and tell them the exact problem. I did this (as they were at one time aware of my "lost" registrations) and it took about 45 minutes to resolve the problem. I'm downloading now.

what about the 4 DVD version of 8.5? if you don't have 8 already installed, do you still need to install the first DVD that came with version 8? or can 8.5 be a clean install? similar to what a lot of folks are doing with Windows 7.
