Cakewalk, Single Sign On and You

Greetings Friends, Today we’d like to announce a change that will hopefully make your experience on our website, store and forum much easier. Single Sign On.

What does this mean?
You will be able to use a single Cakewalk login to access your Cakewalk Store account and Cakewalk forum.

Can I keep my current forum login?
Yes - absolutely. All current forum logins are locked and only the owner of the forum account will be able to migrate that login to a new Cakewalk account.

What happens to my store account?
Using a mix of magic, wizardry, and a dedicated hamster-powered migration tool, all of your Cakewalk Store downloads, purchase history and serial numbers should appear in your new consolidated Cakewalk account.

Why are you making this new scary change? I hate change.
We’re doing this for a number of reasons:
1] To consolidate and simplify the login experience and number of passwords users have to remember.
2] To make your products, downloads, and serial numbers easier to access during periods of high traffic on the Cakewalk Store.
3] To offer better, more integrated services in the future like allowing you to easily see all your past support history or problem reports online.

When is this happening?
  • We are planning to update the forum on Monday July 28th 2014 at 11 am eastern time. We anticipate the forum being unavailable for up to two hours.
  • Starting on July 28th you will be able to see all of your purchased products and available downloads in both your new Cakewalk.com account and your My Account page on the Cakewalk Store.
  • Soon™ we will update the store to use the new Cakewalk accounts.

What is process to create a Cakewalk account?
1] Starting on July 28th you can simply visit http://www.cakewalk.com/my-account
  • If you do not have a forum account click the ‘Create new account button’
  • If you have an existing forum account click the ‘Migrate forum account button’
2] Provide your firstname, lastname, current email and country.
3] An email will be sent with a special link in it, click that link to verify your address
4] You account is created

What happens if I don’t see all of my products or downloads in my account?
Let us know! While we’re doing our best to merge duplicate records, our hamsters can’t always keep up and sometimes we miss something.

Can I login with steam/facebook/twitter/google/friendster ?
At this time no - but we are listening to your feedback and exploring all of these other options (well not friendster).

Do I have to use the same email address for the forum as my Cakewalk Account?
No you do not. When creating a new account or migrating your forum account you should provide the best email address for Cakewalk to reach you at. We'd recommend using the email currently associated with your Cakewalk Store account. Changing or updating the email address setting on the forum will not update the email address that is setup with your Cakewalk Account and vice versa. We are doing this intentionally so that users who use a separate email address for forum notifications/subscriptions may continue to do so.

Let us know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. Ryan and Myself will be monitoring this thread. Unconstructive comments and rants will be removed and I reserve the right to change your avatar picture.

good idea! some hamster-free questions:
what happens if i don't connect my accounts (by a certain time) - are they all/some/none still valid?
what if my forum email is different than my store email?
does everyone need a new cakewalk account, whatever else?
thanks for the timely info, and good luck! :-)

This is great news, and the announcement itself is a classic.

This also explains the last expense report of $4,338 for hamster food. Accounting was kind of confused about that one.

good idea! some hamster-free questions:

Are there any other kind ?

what happens if i don't connect my accounts (by a certain time) - are they all/some/none still valid?

Starting on July 28th you will only be able to log into the forum with your Cakewalk account, so when you click the login button you'll be redirected and prompted. Behind the scenes if you're in a situation where you have multiple store accounts you won't 'lose' any of them - they will just all be tied to the same Cakewalk account now.

what if my forum email is different than my store email?

For your Cakewalk account I'd suggest using the same email as your store account. We are going to purposely allow users to change their forum email address outside of their default Cakewalk account email address. We know some folks have special email addresses for their forum messages/etc.

does everyone need a new cakewalk account, whatever else?

Starting next week you'll only need a Cakewalk account to sign into the forum. Once it is rolled out to the store you'll need it for that as well and eventually support history.

Injury only applies to creatures still living.

You will be forced to use the same login name so you would login with 'yorolpal'. You will not however be required to use the same email address so you can use a separate email for forum notifications etc.

Yes!! Pretty soon there will be one Cakewalk site instead of three different ones.

Good luck with the migration process.

Seeing the hell Harmony Central went through trying to make single sign-on happen (which was finally resolved on their fourth platform change), I'll add my "good luck" to yours.

Well, most of it is going to one guy who's a little overweight...

Eventually, I'm going to have to figure out how to get my out-of-date and completely inaccessible email address (which was used to validate ownership of my Cakewalk products) migrated to a newer one.  The domain just expired a couple of months ago after having it for about 15 years...

I have read the document several times. I get it now... it's all starting to come true as predicted. Observe "Soon" is trademarked but hamster is not. I did some research and came up with this.

"Jeg har en Grey alien I bur, som en liten hamster"
... Translates to "I have a Grey Alien in a cage, like a little hamster".

...Yup the alien grey technology is here folks...

One of the reasons we are doing it in phases is so we can work out any kinks before updating the store. When we switch over the forum and turn on the new pages on Monday you will still be able to access your account page exactly as it is today on the store in addition to the new 'My Account' page we are rolling out.

I expect a smooth transition. But have logged too many decades in IT myself not to make copies of everything I might need. The snapshot made today is probably the same as the one made after my last purchase.
