I don't know this song either, but it's well played and produced.  I like the simple arrangement and the vibe.  Nice job.

For me just a touch to much verb and I think the vocal could do with not being panned quite so much, just me.

Not a bad cover having said that.

    Thanks for sharing.

being an Irish man, know the band well and played this track with the cover band many times.

This is a good version in fairness. The production is really good and it matches the original in that regard for sure. I thought the vocals could be a little better, pretty pitchy throughout. harmony cool sweeping synths cool. The drums. The drums were needed and were added, thought the hats were a little mechanical and loud compared to the snare.

    Well done mate,

I'm listening on headphones. But I can tell listened carefully to the original and added some of the layers that are in the original. I really like the body of the acoustic guitar that is accompanying the lead guitar.

There are flaws in the vocal, but I didn't think it really took away that much. I actually thought you were more interested in copying the original vocal rather than making your own voice be heard.

So - the flaws made sense to me. But I really liked it.

    Hi, Paul,

I don't know the original version, but you sure did a dynamite job on this!

The vocals and harmonies are excellent and the instrumentation sounds great.  I'm on my second listen.  The only minor distraction to me, was that the wide panned vocals seemed to leave a hole in the center of the mix.  But, since I never heard the original version, maybe that's how it was mixed by the original artist.  It is a fantastic song, who was the original done by?

Either way, your performance and mix still sound absolutely terrific, nice work!

That's nice Paulo. I don't mind the vocals being a little pitchy on this, it adds a a little fragility, in keeping with the tasteful low key backing. Good cover.

That vocal widener is really distracting. Try this: put the vocal down the middle, but then do a send to a buss with the widener on it, and do a HPF up to around 500hz. You can get alot of the same atmospherics without sacrificing the middle.

Geez, I don't know, but I liked the whole package.  I thought the arrangement and track came together very nicely, and found nothing in the vocals to be a problem.  In fact, the lyrics were sung with a sincerity that was quite appealing to my ears.  Given a choice, I'll prefer to sing my heart out even if I crack or drift a bit over nailing every note but having a sterile sounding vocal... yeah, I'll take that every time.

Real nice job on this one, Paulo.

Its funny to me how bent over verb people can get. I think you had just the right amount, without it sounding like a boombox in a sewer pipe! I wouyld have bussed the vocals to a verb / tempo delay for some fun but thats just me! Great production and an awesome remake!

Don't actually know or ever heard the song before. Sounded okay though, but perhaps a little stronger on the vocal. But not knowing the song, I really prefer not to comment too much on it then.

I listened to the original and then yours. The instrumentation is comparitive. The vocal phrasing flows smoother on the original than on yours, that's all. Mix suggestions have been addressed above.

Sorry for the delay in replying everyone...

Frank - thank you for checking it out - glad you enjoyed it.

Lynn - Yeah, simplicity is the key to this song I think. Always loved it for that. Thank you for listening and commenting.

Wookie - thanks for the ears - I hear what you say re verb - very subjective thing that. As for panning - I'll cover that in my response to Jamesyoyo if that's ok.......

Whack - yeah I guess you would know this one ! " Vocal's could be better" Yep, sure could - welcome to my world ! ;) That'll be why I'm playing the cakewalk songs forum and not Wembley Arena lol ! Glad you weren't totally horrified. The hats vol was deliberate as I kind of liked it cutting through, but I'll take on board what you say and have an other look at that.

Ruralrocker - thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. Yeah, I wasn't trying to own this or "improve" it. It's just me doing a song that I like a lot - nothing more than that really. Glad you liked the song.

Bob - thanks for your ears and positiver comments - as with Wookies comments I'll cover the panning comment when I get to yoyo's response rather than keep repeating. I'm glad you agree it's a great song - I loved it the first time I heard it and I've never tired of it. The original is by Snow Patrol - around 2006 IIRC. Glad you liked the mix - I've been doing covers of late so that I can concentrate more on improving my mixing as I don't have to worry about how the song goes if that makes sense.

Jamesg = Yes ! Fragility is exactly the feel I wanted for this - not saying every little wobble is 100% deliberate, but that's definitely how I wanted it to sound - so I'm happy with that !

jamesyoyo - you're not the only one to mention the vocal panning, but truth is that on the main vox there is none - one mono track straight down the middle with a send to verb buss and that's it. I'm thinking maybe a prob with the export / conversion process ? I've re-done the export and uploaded again. If you have time to see if you're still hearing the same, I would be grateful - sounds ok on my system. Thanlkd for the advice though - may try that on the next one - always happy to get super-producer tips ! :)

Geeare - thank you kind sir - I'm glad you dig it. Have to admit I was quite pleased with the various textures myself.

Daryl - thanks to you too. Glad you enjoyed :)

PhilZ - thank you so much ! I hear what you say and I agree, though being one who is prone to wobbly vocals, I guess I would ! It's a fair point though, and I did try to keep this honest in keeping with the simplicity of the whole thing.

BigJGTR - Thanks for your ears and comments. yeah, I kind of like the verb the way it is too, but we're all different. It's actually quite a tame reverb for me lol !

Bapu - thanks for taking the time out from your busy posting schedule to listen and comment ;) Glad you liked. The original is by Snow Patrol - bound to be on YouTube of you want to hear the original and decide if I murdered it or not ;)

Spacealf - thals for taking the time to listen and comment. Much appreciated.

Scotty - Thanks for lending your ears . I hear what you say. I was trying to keep this honest and simple, so didn't really reference the original during the process  - I've heard it so many times that I just went with what was in my head.

I'll add my name to the list of those who have not heard this song.  Therefore, not being burdened by having heard the original, I can say I thought that you did a doggone good job on this.  I'm borrowing my son's laptop again and even on the almost adequate speakers this sounds good.  I'll also add my name to the list of those who thought the vocals were good.  This wasn't a song that demanded strong, pitch-perfect vocals but the melody, lyrics, and every else in this song begged vocals that sounded reflective and maybe even vulnerable.  I think that you got this in your vocals.
    Good stuff and nice job.

Unbewievable!  I mean, I KNOW this song!  lol  (They play it here often) And I like it...except for when they sing 'lay' instead of 'lie' but that's being an uptight grammarian I guess.

Your voice sounds about the best I've heard it for some reason.  I love it when it gets 'big' -- so much energy... great drums and bass and guitars.  Great transition to the end.

    Really enjoyed that!

Thank you all for taking the time to listen and commment...

ohgrant - glad you enjoyed - it's certainly  a great tune - just wish I had written it ! Maybe one day......

Freddy - thanks for the kind comments  - yeah, not knowing the song can have it's advantages as there are no preconceptions. Reflective and vulnerable are indeed good words to describe this song and is certainly the kind of feel I was aiming for, so I'm glad it came across that way

Tim - I think it as used in a US tv show - maybe you heard it there ? Thank you so much for your kind comments - it is a great song for sure - I never tire of hearing it. So simple, yet so very effective. Talking of which, I was just listening to your "every time it rains" - still love that too. I ran out of my "free" listens ages ago, but I figured that what the hell............ he won't know. Until now that is. D'oh !

Warren - Thanks for your ears and comments. There never was any panning as such on the vocal, something must have gone astray in the export/conversion process so after the comments I re-exported and did a fresh upload. My bad for not checking it on soundclick the first time ! Glad you enjoyed the song. Check out the original sometime (Snow Patrol)  - it's great.

Radio - thanks for listening and commenting - glad you enjoyed it.

mgh - thank you so much - I'm blushing now ! Not seen you around here much of late - good to see you back.

Wookie - thanks for taking the time to come back again and comment again - much appreciated.

Janet -  "Unbewievable!" said the woman who insists on grammatical correctness, lol ! ;) Thank you for the kind words. I think I'm gradually finding my sound in terms of vocals.

Beagle - thanks for checking it out. Glad you liked it. Hard not to I think in terms of the song itself. I'm happy that my attempt at it is being so well received. :)
