Clean installation from the SONAR 8.5 DVD makes a big difference! Numerous problems get fixed by doing so! Also latency issues, POP:s, clicks, can be fixed too in the DVD-version. I know it should be exactly the same as the “Internet-update” version, but it's not. Now I can even play projects in 2ms, even though 2ms is not recommend for anyone. I use often 6ms and up to 10ms. I don't know if its just me, but I notice that the TL-64 Tube Leveler and The TS-64 Transient Shaper has also got a bigger interface on the 8.5 DVD version compare to the older version in SONAR 8.3.1 or update version. Earlier those plugins was kind of tiny especially on the number side, even though I think it could still be even bigger GUI interface. The new PX-64 Percussion Strip and VX-64 Vocal Strip- multieffects processor are more like it, and fine, even though personal I feel that they too could also be increased a little bit as a zoom factor on 125%. Also everything is up to date on all DVD:s so you will only need the Update Matrix 8.5.1 from the Internet. You will need to registrant all again, also a new up to date Dimension Pro are available on the DVD:s. All extra banks for Dimension Pro are included on the last DVD 4 too. All new license are on the DVD:s so don't worry. On the DVD:s Beatscape 1.0.2 Dimension Pro 1.2 Guitar Rig 3LE SONAR 8.5 Reference guide and rest of Cakewalk arsenal of plugins If you have the 8.5 DVD-version too, as I did fortunately bought when I upgrade, the most important is to do a clean sweep first to make a clean installation of Cakewalk software's-products. Don't forget to uninstall Guitar Rig 3LE that are a part of Cakewalk SONAR 8.5.1 installation. - Export your Color-skin
- Drag and safe copy your own Icons (if you use any own-made)
- Safe copy all 3part plugins that share the “VSTPlugins”-map in all Cakewalk directory
- Copy all other settings/presents you might have made

i read your post and it made me wanna get the discs for my already installed 8.51 BUT i could not find it at the Cakewalk store ANYWHERE.

Wetdentist. I'm sure you can still buy them, and it will take only approximate 2 days until you get them by mail too! I think they cost only $20 or €18 or something like that, not very much. I know it was a guy from Australia on this FORUM that bought them after he already bought the “internet update”- version. I don't know, otherwise a clean installation might help anyhow. Even if its from the 8.3.1-version.. But the best thing is to go by the new DVD:s I think? I have heard more reports on this on this FORUM earlier, that the new 8.5 DVD:s fix many issues for people. That's why I made the decision yesterday to make clean sweep installation. My friend today; I don't regret that I actually did at all.  Best Regards Freddie

Interesting. I also ordered the DVDs when I first bought 8.5.1. My Vista 64-bit boot has the downloaded version and my newer Windows 7 boot I did from the DVDs. When I'm back at my DAW I'll take a look and see if I see the differences.
I do know that I was able to mix at a lower latency on my Windows 7 boot. Which is great when I need to add another guitar track or vocal take as I don't have to turn everything off (VST-wise) to get the audio track included. I assumed that was just more efficient code in the Windows 7 release, but it could be related to the version of Sonar installed from the DVDs.

When I'm back at my DAW I'll take a look and see if I see the differences.
That will be intresting. My plan was to buy the boxed version of the upgrade in any case but I was initally planning on keeping my 8.3 32 Bit installation as a fall back and Installing 8.5 64 Bit in parallel. If there is a concensus that a clean install works better I will go that way.

Yeah, I'm just wondering if the migration to some of the plug-ins as 64-bit plugs actually helped improve the performance on my session. I used 64-bit Guitar rig, 64-bit WaveArts TrackPlug, and 64-bit Aria player for Garritan Orchestra rather than their 32-bit equivalents.
I'm trying to make my Windows 7 boot about 64-bit.

Yes, its very interesting! I have heard numerous reports on this on this FORUM earlier, that the new 8.5 DVD:s fix many issues for people. That's why I made the decision yesterday to make clean sweep installation. Today; I don't regret that I actually did at all. Regards Freddie

Did you install Sonar 8.51 32-bit as well as 64-bit?

I had bought the DVD version right away, but I held off on installing 8.51 because of all of the issues that I saw being reported; not to mention that I was in the middle of a project. Last weekend I finally decided to go for the installation of 8.51, using the boxed DVD disks and to my surpise, I have had absolutely no issues what so ever with the new installation. In fact, my system is running better than it ever has, every thing seems faster loading and no drop outs or pauses.

he folkks you are making me anxious - i am just downloading 8.5 and i guess the discs will take at least a week to get to europe - but on the other hand - who cares :-) i almost make a complete system image every day day - so a clean install is no issue ...

i just bought it it worked but it says studio version even in my account, i have the pe serial number and the studio serial number and there both different, so i think im screwed im on hold with cw now...

i still can't find the link to purchase the DVDs from the Cakewalk Online Store!!! and, i emailed Cakewalk about this and haven't heard back from them yet. maybe they don't want me to buy;.)
