Beepster Hey, Godling. It's fine if you don't like stream of conscious parody threads and it's fine to say so. I think they're good for a guffaw but they ain't for everyone and they are actually against the rules of many other forums. You however have chosen to be a jackwagon about it and insult large swaths of long time members who are just having a little fun. To me that is far more annoying than some silly wordplay. Chill out.
He called them "childish"... Seems about right to me. He was hardly "insult(ing) large swathes" of people. Check out the forum index page, you can count the number of so-called 'transgressors' on the fingers of one hand. Edit to add: That's not to say there's anything wrong with being 'childish'. After all, I am guilty myself on many occasions. I see it as just a case of everything should be good in moderation.

Beepster But who decides what's daft and what's interesting?
The rules of each forum, and the forum hosts who would be empowered to enforce them.

RainA bit like you wouldn't walk into a McDonalds if you want to eat something healthy in a classy ambience... Otherwise, with a bit of time, you learn to spot and stay away from certain threads. Now pretend you just walked into a brick & mortar 'Cakewalk' store in place of a McDonalds. Part of the store has an integrated and open coffee shop with all the behaviour being discussed. What will be your impression of that store? It's users? It's hosts? Point being... 'whatever' their behavior in the coffee shop... it 'does' color the image/reputation of the company. So if we then associate McDonalds with low end food... what should we then associate Cakewalk with then in this scenario... with its coffee shop?

bapu Maybe John was right all along?
At the time, I believe I agreed with him to a certain extent ... Mind you, he went about it all the wrong way (as have I on many occasions), but he had a point, nonetheless. No doubt our three resident CH host 'regulars' will be kind enough to let us know if he's changed his opinions.

I think the forum hosts should be a lot stricter with the Coffee House rules to be honest... Providing I can still say whatever I like.

You, in an attempt to defend yourself and the community, have totally missed the whole point. It's about " renaming multiple threads"... not the content of the threads themselves. Perhaps next time you'll slow down and focus before knee-jerking into defense mode. And 'jackwagon' and 'large swaths'? You sir, are also in danger of overflowing.

I have learned that the freedom to be daft is a special treat for those that like daftness. If you don't like it, you should not hang out and read the stuff. The fact that it is allowed shows that the powers that be have a sense of humor and permit random acts of foolishness. I and probably many of the frequent customers of the CH have stressful jobs, lives, mates, families, tragedies, etc. and you name it to deal with in responsible and sincere ways. But here in the CH, you can let it go and mix, mingle, hide, contribute, refute, disagree, act like an immature kid, or whatever, and that is what makes this place what it is. If you can't feel good about it, then don't frequent it. It's simple and causes not harm to the end user. Rimshot

He took it a little further than that in his next post, Steve. I ignored his first one. Whatever. My point is thoughts and opinions are one thing. Making personal attacks is entirely another. That and willful ignorance/obstinance are really the only things that get me pissy. As far as creating a whole new subforum... well I personally wouldn't dig that because I poke around the CH in between torturing my little brain with this very dry and heavy subject we call music production. Popping in to see silly stuff, interesting stuff, semi off topic stuff, totally off topic stuff, whatever is a nice break in that monotony. I thought the idea of the CH was to allow people the "open topic" option... just as long as it's not outright nasty or disruptive. Jokes are good. Talking about guits is good. Talking about the news is good. Whatevs. It's all good. It's walking into a "Coffee House" and having a chat with whoever is there if you are so inclined. What would happen to all your joke threads? Would they stay in CH proper or get moved to the "silly" CH? What about the news from England threads about the Queenie? And won't someone PLEASE think of poor ole Kanye.

If Cakewalk tolerated racism, sexism, homophobia and such, or if they had a bunch of Nazi organizing a rally and distributing flyers and recruiting, I'd see it as a disgrace for them. A bunch of guys having fun but remaining respectful of each other? I personally wouldn't mind. I've seen some of those folks contact me via private messages and show great deals of compassion - for me and for others - in tough times. I've seen the Coffee House members mobilize and take action to find what had happened to a respected forum member missing in action. Ironically, if I remember correctly, Sharke was the one who found out where he lived and went to that fellows' place - only to find out that he was deceased. Granted, silliness can be annoying, but I don't think it reflects badly on Cakewalk. Unless one's judging the book by its cover... I agree with Steve that having subdivided forums would be the best option.

I understood exactly what you said. You think the posters of such threads are childish and somehow inferior to you. If you just said you found it confusing or the threads themselves annoying then I could accept that. You maligned the people behind them instead. I stand by my "jackwagon" comment. You sound very joyless.

In the spirit of doing my job, there is nothing further to be gained from this. Everyone knows the CH rules. Can we keep it civil please? Turning the key on this thread.
