Computer Monitor Size
Hey, I'm looking at building a new DAW for X2. What would you suggest be the minimum computer monitor screen size for X2 in a single-monitor setup? Thanks.

For whatever the worth, a nice brand new 32" HDTV can be purchased for $199, with several brands to choose from. I am aging rapidly, and sometimes my eyes hang lower than my ex-wife's eh external gear. I find the larger screen size to be quite helpful. I later ended up purchasing a gigantic 46" HDTV and now use both displays. It's really about how good your eyes are, how much you have available to spend, and how much room you have for putting a display somewhere. I WILL say that bang for the buck, you can get a much bigger HDTV for way less than an equivalent actual computer monitor. I find them to be quite adequate for display quality when using Sonar. I was just today contemplating turning the 46" display on its side, and changing the layout to portrait, to see more vertical display - more tracks vertically and all. The 32" display is used for displaying mainly the console, and I can drag other things over there if needed. Hope that helps you, Bob Bone

I have a 24 Inch 1920 x 1080 which is adequate. I don't see the point in going bigger than 24 Inch unless you can go beyond 1920 x 1080. (unless of course you want to view from a distance)Some of the more expensive 27 inch monitors go to 2560 x 1440 which would be nice.

The last time I went shopping for a new monitor I was able to get a 23" and I am happy with it.....I did think about the HDTV thing but did not want to have to anchor a bracket into the wall just to hang that sucker......But I agree....with age comes blindness! The next one will have to be a HDTV..... Cclifford

i wouldnt settle for less than a 24" with 1920*1200 resolution for a single monitor.. taht extra height is really worth it. and..given you have a17", put that to one side as screen #2 for your VST editor windows and u will be golden

When we upgraded to a big screen last year, my wife got our first-gen 36" LED TV. But it is 720p so we have to use a weird screen size - 1216x684 and while it is easy to read, a lot of web pages use the lines from 600-1020 and they require scrolling. Maybe they are all 1080p now, I don't know.

Samsung 24" monitors are relatively cheap these days, so I wouldn't go with anything smaller than that ... 1920x1080 seems to be a popular resolution. Be sure whatever you get is nice and bright with good contrast ... I have seen Acer monitors that looked washed out next to a Samsung.

27" (1920 x 1080) is good for me, with some eye sight problem. For me only, I would avoid 2560 x 1440 @27" since it would makes things smaller. That's why I got 2x 27" (1920 x 1080) (it's cheaper than a single 30" 2560 x 1440).

tomixornot That's why I got 2x 27" (1920 x 1080)... I've got 2x22" (1680 x 1050), which is good, but I would love to have 27s. I recently asked CW what the size of the monitor was that they use in their tutorials; they said 27". The screen real estate looks great in those videos; ever since then I've wanted 2x27s. Consider me big time jealous...

.... Minimum size also depends on the distance you are from the screen. A small 7" full HD screen (1980) at 3" is the same as a 40" screen @ 24" away. The sun is like a trillion inches wide but I wouldn't be able to read the screen if Sonar was painted on it. Sorry not trying to be sarcastic. Just making a point. My first point. I know I always wanted X1 to be much smaller in all it's graphic elements. My eyes are good.

Widescreen is good for playing games and watching movies, but stupid for working! I agree. Widescreen is better for viewing but not good for long sessions of fine detailed editing with a mouse. I used a 24" 1920x1280 for a couple of years and I found it a tiring for midi editing and eventually reverted back to using a 19" 1280x1024 5:4 ratio screen. This may seem retro, but they are still commonly used in offices. And rightly so. I've got a 4-screen setup consisting of these now.
