[Consolidated] Dimension Pro Install Problems X1 Producer- Gettin' Valid

We have been trying to consolidate all the threads that are popping up. This actually makes it easier for us to see your feedback and experiences. I have merged all the narrow strip threads into this thread.

Robin

SONAR X1 Producer Additional Content installer error: "A valid Dimension Pro installation has not been detected. Please install Dimension Pro before running this setup."

OK, First off there was no way to UN-install Dimension Pro from my previous installs of home studio, home studioxl, sonar 8.0studio and then sonar 8.5producer ALL of which got UN-installed from Windows7 64 Bit PRIOR to the X1 Producer Install, THEN I went to install the Dimension Pro 1.5 from the download file in the proper sequence which by then I was more than ready for and BAM,"you must first down load the 1.5 update error message" pops up for Dimension PRO which I then did and then ran the downloaded version of 1.5 Dimension Pro...everything Installed and then went to run additional content and then THIS MESSAGE...and then when you go to the Hints and tips page NO WORKAROUND WHAAAAATS UUUUUP WWIIIIIT THAAAAT?????

Sorry bout the yellin but this has takin me hours....any help???

Why? Cakewalk recommends you install the new version before you uninstall the old version. If you uninstall them first, then you lose all of your customizations from the older versions.

No, just the oppposite, cakewalk specifically said uninstall all in the Sonar readme file:
Ok, I just realized I should have installed it on top of everything else, but now what is my workaround..also it says there is no Master .Ins file now, hmmmm. Thanks for responding! I supposed I could go back to a couple of days ago and do it all over again...Windows 7 restore!!

WHERE TO INSTALL SONAR
Install the SONAR X1 DVD(s) or downloads in the order in which they are labeled. If you are
upgrading from SONAR 8.5 Producer you do not need to install or download Dimension Pro or
Beatscape unless you need or want to reinstall them.
Do not install SONAR “on top of” an earlier version of Cakewalk software. The Setup program
installs into a separate directory by default, however some users try to conserve disk space by
installing the new software into the same directory used by a previous version; this is not
recommended. We recommend installing SONAR into a separate directory, and then later
uninstalling your previous version to reclaim disk space.
USE THE UNINSTALLER PROGRAM
Removing previously installed Cakewalk products after installing SONAR X1 may remove some
plug-ins. Either uninstall previous versions rst, or do a “Custom” re-installation of the effects
and synths from the SONAR X1 installer. Never remove previous versions manually by deleting
folders that contain the software

Someone else posted this solution and I apologize for not being able to give that person credit.

But I did copy his solution into a text file and saved it:

"
OK guys I found a solution in another thread which was posted by a user, and it worked like a charm. The issue is that the Sonar X1 Additional Content installation routine is looking for a serial number for Dimension Pro 1.5 that comes with Sonar X1, and my guess is that we all still had the serial number for DimPro that was with Sonar 8.5 - at least I did. So the serial needs to be updated in order for the additional content installation to see the "valid" DimPro present, or it won't install. Open regedit, navigate to the following keys, and change any references to your existing DimPro serial to the new serial for DimPro that came with Sonar X1:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Cakewalk Music Software/dp/
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Cakewalk Music Software/Dimension Pro
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Cakewalk Music Software/dp

After closing the registry editor, you should find that the X1 additional content installs just fine.

Hope that helps! All the best.
"

This worked for me. I was able to install the additional content.

Cheers!

Yeah, the additional content is looking for the new serial number. You can also just delete the prior version of DP before you install it again if you don't feel safe mucking around in your registry. Then when you open DP in X1 you'll get the usual reg code authorization message. Plus the message when opening a project that looks for the earlier version asking if you want to install the new version.

I had this same problem....unistalled, re-installed. Then remembered the trick of opening the exacutable as an administrator.  Once I did that, it took the activation code.

This advice really helped get past the 'not valid' problem and I followed your advice Craig - uninstalled reinstalled Dim Pro but now X1 doesn't want to find Dim Pro.

I rescanned the VST folders, DimPro is in a folder to be scanned, c:\program files\cakewalk\Vstplugins, it has a folder called DimPro, the 64dll file is there as expected, but it simply will not appear in the synth list. Any advice?

Jumbicat I'll try the administrator trick.

No luck

Jumbicat,

I don't think I quite understand this. Did you open DimPro as an administrator? And what activation code are you referring to. The registration code? Thanks in advance.

I re-read the thread and might have mis-understood the issue.  Sorry
In my case, I installed dimension Pro but it wouldn't accept the activation code when launched for the 1st time.  It may be you're passed the initial installation and activation phase and working a different issue.

Thanks Jumi<

Haven't gotten to an 'activation phase'. X1 still can't find Dim Pro. Funny I just played some sample content and could see Dim Pro as a synth in the browser but could open the property page. Hmmm

There should be an Dimension Pro X64 icon on the desktop. What happens if you open DP as a stand alone?

Thanks didn't think to look there.

Dim Pro opens as a standalone and I was able to register it but X1 still won't recognize it. Maybe I'll reinstall?

[resolved] Additional Content needs a Valid Dim Pro? 2010/12/11 21:25:25 (permalink)
X1 Additional content won't install and says I don't have a valid Dim Pro.

I tried entering the new serial number in regedit.  Now when I open Dim Pro in 8.5.3 it wants the new registration code which I put in but it it says its not valid.  I ran as administrator.

I re-installed and still X1 won't find Dim Pro. It's in the proper folder with EVERY other Vstplugin. Has the .dll file. Ive rescanned a hundred times. Runs in stand alone.

Stumped.

Re:Dimension Pro 'Not Valid' Problem Solved 2010/12/11 22:18:02 (permalink)
I did the regedit - could only find one instance of Dim Pro.  I changed the Serial number.  Rebooted.  Now I can't get Dim pro to work in Sonar 8.5.3 - I ran as administrator, and put in the new registration code, but it won't take it.  It does show the new Serial Number.  I did everything twice - and I'm copying and pasting these numbers in so there are no mistakes.

Help!

Dimension Pro: Re-installed, now projects cannot find it 2010/12/11 22:19:16 (permalink)
So, I decided to uninstall my previous version of Dimension Pro so that I don't have to hack my registry. Bad choice... Now, my existing projects report a missing plugin. I installed both, the 32bit and the 64bit version. I re-scanned all my VST plugins. No luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I'm still hoping the regedit trick can work.  so far no go.  I guess I'll try downloading the x1 version but that seems scary because of what is happening to you.

Same problem. Didn't edit the reg but uninstalled re-installed. Ran the additional content, Dim Pro runs stand alone but not in X1 OR 8.53. Rescanned many many times and the scan just doesn't find Dim Pro.

Weird, working great here. I ust left my orig X64 only dim pro in (it's updated to 1.5) and all the exp packs are good. In tune bass.
What reg hack? I guess you guys are x32? If not, I have no reg hack used here.

Mine was working great till I tried to add the additional content. It couldn't find a 'valid' Dim Pro so one had to hack the reg to get the new serial number in or re-install Dim Pro 1.5. I chose the latter and haven't been able to access it since. 64 bit here.

Re:Dimension Pro: Re-installed, now projects cannot find it 2010/12/11 23:18:19 (permalink)
This one is easy if you know about folder structures in Windows 7 or Vista, but not very intuitive otherwise.  Do this procedure at your own risk because if you do it wrong you may have to reinstall things. The place I got the information from on the Cakewalk site I believe was actually incomplete.

You open up
[drive]:ProgramFiles (x86)/Cakewalk/Dimension Pro/Programs
and copy all the folders you need to
[drive]:ProgramData/CakeWalk/Dimension Pro/Programs
These may actually already be there.

You will be asked to confirm that you are Administrator.

Here is the one you are probably missing.  You copy all the folders you need from
[drive]:ProgramFiles (x86)/Cakewalk/Dimension Pro/Multisamples
to
[drive]:ProgramFiles/Cakewalk/Dimension Pro/Multisamples

Then open Dimension Pro 1.5 and load a file.  When the menu comes up pres [F5].  The menu will refresh after about a minute.

Good luck.  This worked for me. Like I said,  at your own risk.
