'Cookin' in Satan's Kitchen' - Now includes alternative version by Yorolpal!

New song by Tim Wilkinson - vocals and mandolin, and me - guitar and production.

* Alternative version with extra instrumentation and production by - 'Yorolpal' ;
 Cookin' in Satan's Kitchen

Tim's lyrics were inspired by dialogue heard in a 2004 documentary, 'Searching for The Wrong-Eyed Jesus'

Cookin' in Satan's Kitchen
Bury all what's left of the racoon we ate for supper
N' make sure when he in that hole his eyes are pointin' downwards
Coz if he wakes up diggin, in his anger to reach his killer
Well he'll just dig deeper down and find himself in Satan's Kitchen

When we was kids my momma let my brother keep birds in the house
He'd catch 'em in the old Live-Oak and lichen
But Annie said "Don't keep 'em, they spits poison in your mouth"
"In less time than it takes to tell, you're down in Satan's Kitchen"

Ooh hoo, ooh hoo, cookin' in Satan's Kitchen
Ooh hoo, ooh hoo, cookin' in Satan's Kitchen

Ain't goin' over Jordan
Ain't goin' one-by-one
Ain't goin' to greet my loved ones
Ain't goin' over home

Feed yourself on promises of heaven pure and sweet
Raise your hand and testify "Gonna cook all I can eat"
We been runnin' to the edges, to the rituals of sin
'Lest we keep on diggin' down and find ourselves in Satan's Kitchen

Ooh hoo, ooh hoo, cookin' in Satan's Kitchen
Ooh hoo, ooh hoo, cookin' in Satan's Kitchen

Ain't goin' over Jordan
Ain't goin' one-by-one
Ain't goin' to greet my loved ones
Ain't goin' over home

Ooh hoo, ooh hoo, cookin' in Satan's Kitchen
Ooh hoo, ooh hoo, cookin' in Satan's Kitchen
Ooh hoo, ooh hoo, cookin' in Satan's Kitchen
Ooh hoo, ooh hoo, cookin' in Satan's Kitchen
Ooh hoo, ooh hoo, ooh hoo, ooh hoo

Sounds like a traditional folk tune I might hear on the back porch at my cousins in Appalachia. Nice recording - like I'm sitting right there listening. Good vocal quality as well and instruments are just what they should be (IMO). I like folk/western material. The lyrics are a bit out there but I am guessing it's by design. Good and evil - the longest running theme in all forms of art. Good job you guys.

this should be on Austin City Limits! Great job! very low clutter, very sparse arrangement. All that's important is in there.

Sweet, nice vocal Tim beautifully captured with that mandolin creating a glue for the vocal, nice touch on the tremolo guitar James and on the production overall.

    Excellent job guys.

The vocals seemed just a tad bottom heavy to me but that's probably just personal taste. Not as glossy as the rest of the production if that makes sense.

Clint, thanks very much, that made my day, and I passed your comments on to Tim.

We're 3 songs into an album for 2015, which will be loosely in this style - that is, folk oriented, a blend of English and Americana, with emphasis on the vocals and minimal instrumentation. Trouble is, we live 500 miles apart, so we have to work fast when we get together Next session scheduled for mid Feb.

Not feeling that tremolo guitar after ain't going home. I would have brought it a little harder there, and bled it in throughout with a big ending. But I guess everyone's a producer. Tim sounds good as usual.

Not feeling that tremolo guitar after ain't going home. I would have brought it a little harder there, and bled it in throughout with a big ending. But I guess everyone's a producer. Tim sounds good as usual.

Thanks Robby. Someone else suggested a big ending. That's the beauty of DAWs, anything can be tried later.
