Okay when I read this, I have to admit my first thought was "no way, Anne Murray sucks".

But I listened anyway.

Glad I did!! The music is well played and mixed. The vocals are great. Sung with great passion while still showing restraint. Could have easily been done over the top but RR showed lots of control. The last run at the end is fantastic.

Great collab!!

Did I mention that this is one of my favorite songs of all time?

Well, it is, and you did it justice.

Yeah don't tell my buddies in my biker gang that I listened to an Anne Murray song. They might rough me up a bit and take away my man card.

Wow Janet! You're voice has really changed! ;) Or has it? J/K.

Well ... if I had to nit pick, it cuts off too abruptly at the end. It could use a little more sparkle in the upper end. I pulled up the EQ in Windows Media Player and bumped the 2kHz range a db or two and it really helped a lot ... on my system. The strings are beautiful and sound nice when they pop out a little more.

Instrumentally it's great, vocals are great too just a little breathy sounding with the highs boosted.

I'll try to make some adjustments based on everyone's excellent feedback, thanks very much to all who contributed. At least no one can accuse me of trying to be a Melodyned Anne Murray wanna be like the person who used to call himself Bobby? LOL! I didn't edit these vocals. That silk boustier really did help me get in to character though? I'll try get get Janet a remix this weekend.

Why's that, did ya use V-vocal instead?

No, no vvocal? It was aaaa natural?

I did use a silk bustier? But I can't go in to much more detail...

Janet - a great cover of a lovely song. Robby's vox is easy to listen to, as usual. Nice collab, both of you!

BTW - the song was written by Randy Goodrum who has a string of hits as long as your arm.

Thank you, Phil. Yeah, he's rather hard to hide, huh?  :)

Thanks Bub.  Yeah, I wish my voice would change like this...

Thank you, Gary.  I did think about checking to see who actually wrote the song.  I should have. Thanks for the info!  I'm obviously not the only one who thinks he writes good songs. :)

Thanks a lot, Portsmouth!

I'm with Tim, the strings were a little too commercial.  I would have liked to hear some acoustic guitar with the piano.

But the piano and vocals were very well done, as usual.   Yes, very well done.

Hi, Janet,

A belated Happy Birthday to you!

You and Robby did a knockout job on this very classy sounding remake!  Your piano playing sounds fantastic as usual, Robby did great on the smooth, subtle vocals, and personally, I think the strings sounded absolutely amazing.  Actually, I think the rich, clean texture of the strings really glued the whole mix together nicely.

Now if you can only talk Robby into singing a heavy metal cover of "Snowbird", then, we'll be all set!

Geat job, guys!

Bob

I was also surprised by the male vocals, but they were great.
Nice full sound on this.  The violin competes with the vocals in some spots, maybe duck them in and out a bit.

Thanks Daryl.  Too commercial?  I haven't heard that one before.  :)  If I could play guitar better I would have, so I had to settle for EW strings.  I'm glad you liked the rest of it. :)

Thanks Bob.  I really glad you liked it.  :)  I imagine Robby would give it a go, since he wants to be known as the most versatile musician around here.  lol

Thank you, Mike.  I rather like it too. :)

Thanks Gary.  Really glad you liked it.  :)

Thanks for stopping by, Jamz.  :)  So glad you liked it.  I hear ya on that violin.  Even though I sang the song in my head when I was playing the parts, it's still hard not to compete with the melody.  Perhaps I should have worked on the strings more after he laid down the vox. I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever do this again.

You may be able to solve it with an automated EQ on the violins during the vocal passages...so they don't cut through so much.

Well, the first note of the vocal I knew it was Robby.  You guys did a fine job on this, a tune I've always liked.  I have to agree with Tim.  Robby does a great job and so did you.  Beautiful.   Is that a real bass (you know, Robby's a bass player LOL)?  It really sounded good.

Thank you, Warren.  Glad you liked it.  :)  Yes, it's a real bass..his Alembic, I believe.  I think it added a lot.

Thanks, Tim.  You're not the only one who had to try to get in the mood for this song I guess.  lol  Thanks for hangin' in there with us.  :)  I play a Privia keyboard in my studio and I use Ivory for the piano sound. (there's a more proper way to say that, I know, but it escapes me at the moment.)   I think it sounds absolutely gorgeous right out of the box, but there were a couple around here that helped me tweak it to be even better.

Thanks everyone; unfortunately the "ham fisted" moderators banned me and then proceeded to refuse to tell me why they banned me? I sent them several polite e-mails "which they ignored..." I think they are ****s personally? But even ****s need to contribute if they can? So I'm glad that they can sit at a keyboard and know where the home base keys are? GFY!!! (Good For You!!) I'm sure their parents are very proud... And I hope they were not dropped on their heads "too hard?" as infants? :-(

Thank you Janet for asking me to participate/contribute? :-) And thank you for our new one that's in the works :-) "Clearly" you were not dropped on your head? (HARD!) as an infant? (like the "moderators...") And you are (thankfully) in control of all of your senses? (unlike the moderators?) Ouch! I'll bet that hurt? But I'm pretty sure they don't remember it?

So were you permanently banned Robby BanThis?

Honestly, I could kinda see why you were banned, although I think a warning would have sufficed, but I don't see anything that was said by Bobby the other guy to warrant a banning, unless they deleted what he said?
