Cover: You Needed Me

Since JY mentioned the demise of the Songs forum, I thought I'd just throw this one together yesterday.

Well, maybe it took a month or so.  I hope you like it.  Comments most welcome.

Nice job. I like the arrangement. The singer did a good job with a deceptively difficult melody. Those large intervallic jumps can be murder.

Hi Janet, nice arrangement and playing. Nice combination of piano and strings, not to sure of the strings around the 2:40 mark.

An interesting comparison of the two services, SC and RN, I think it sounds better on RN...

I mixed this "loud." not sure if the vocals are too hot, and the bass?

Thanks, Chappel.  This singer doesn't seem to struggle with too many songs. :)

Thank you, Rik.  :)  Not sure about those strings there, huh?  I'll listen again.  Thanks for the heads-up.

    Janet,

Nice job, at first I wasn't sure about the male vocal as I grew up hearing Anne Murray singing it, but I think it is really good.  Like the vocal, strings, piano arrangement, etc..

The only things I would change in it is to brighten the piano and French Horns a little,  The strings and vocal are very bright and clear, the piano and French Horn are a little dull in comparison (playing is good though).

Really outstanding cover of a great song...

    Regards

Beautiful job Janet.  The male vocal caught me at first but they were great --- so, who need Ann Murray.  Great arrangement, performance, and mix.  Great cover.

Thank you very much Mark!  But yeah, but if I'd sung it it would have really ruined it for you.  lol  Anyway, interesting idea about the piano and horn.  I'll listen to it with that in mind.  Thanks for the idea!

Thank you, Freddy.  Yeah, Anne was busy this week anyway. :)

Great job on the cover Janet, that piano sounded wonderful, still adjusting to the male vocal  but it was very well done as well!

Why are guys having such a hard time adjusting to a guy singing this song!!?? It's just a part? It should matter not who sings it, unless it's about penetration?

It's an Anne Murray cover But I sang it. And it's good? :-)

A chick could sing Stairway? And that would not make it feminine?  Now if it was, "when a man loves a woman?" Sung by a chick? Well then, OK... :-)

Thanks James.  He's not bad, eh?  :)

Thanks Dan.  :)  Glad you liked it.  Robby takes a little getting used to anyway, doesn't he?  :)

Hey! Is that Anne Robbins singing?

Very nice job by both of you.

Unfortunately, I'm not convinced by the "strings", but I'm sure you saw that coming. LOL

I haven't heard this song before. I like the straight forward flow in the melody and lyrics. Although difficult intervals the vocals are very impressive. Those seemingly small harmony changes in the last verse are awesome. Very well performed and arranged.  It really moved me.

Very tender tinkling of the keys Janet.  Sounded like you were tip toeing across my heart.
Robby's vocals are great.  There is some processing artifact that is distracting in the Vox.  Might be a tiny flange but it is jarring because it's a very open mix.
    Beautiful duet.

Scott, what are you talking about??  Robby plays violin too, you know!  :) Anyway, thank you.

Thank you Bruce.  I purposely didn't listen to the original hardly at all...just wanted to play what was in my head.  Well, that, and not give up because her version is so beautiful.  :)

    Thanks, Frank!

Thank you so much, Equality.  I think it's a particularly beautiful song and just wanted to get it down.  :)

Much obliged, Rick.  :)  I'll be honest...there was some serious editing of those keys.  After he sent the mix back to me I couldn't stand what I'd done, so I made several parts more delicate.  Or something.  I'm glad it worked.

Robby, if you're not careful, I may have to fire you...

It's really great Janet and Robby. I think it's Robby's best vocal I've heard.
nit: strings got a little loud near the end.
nit2: this is a really sappy song.
