Crow - Collaboration with Kennywtelejazz
Since posting this piece here a few days ago, Kenny more than generously offered to add his amazing musicianship to the song. Here it is: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11568383 (Kenny has done a huge amount to this piece including added the guitar to the flute intro, beefed up the drums, added distortion to the violin and replaced the soft synth lead guitar with him playing). (Lyrics are at the bottom of the Soundclick page) Kenny asked me to post it here and I do so with my considerable thanks for what he has done to add huge energy and vitality to the song. Kenny, you ROCK! Best Wishes Malcolm

Hi Malcom, this redue is amazing! Love the guitars. The lead with the violin is killer. Two things: on the opening tympani roll, there is cracking distortion with specific peaks starting at 0:40. Also, the lead vocal could use some brightening. Needs breath. Super job by you and Kenny. Rimshot

Hi Malcom, I'm still flooded with all the raw energy that got put into the playing and recording i sure hope to get some sleep soon here is the rundown on my end , in case anybody is interested Malcom , is a fine composer and much of what I played and remixed was already contained in the basic elements of his song . I can't stress this enough , my job was to remain true to the composers vision after the opening flute phrase, I doubled some of the flute part on my mandolin ..this part was played on an acoustic mandolin w a condenser mic. what most folks think might be a bass is actually me playing the acoustic guitar part that Malcom originally wrote on my Les Paul this is happening on left channel on the right channel I am playing some chords that I felt fit the phrases harmonically ( DeArmond M- 75 T ) next I beefed up the drums w a Ludwig kit using Malcom's midi file and added a new bass guitar part also using Malcoms original midi bass part. ( Dim Pro ) don't ask the patch my lips are sealed lol all the soaring lead guitar parts i played were all done on my Les Paul direct w a cab simulator and some grit on the front end of that . once again I remained true to the composers original score by playing what he wrote . this was his violin part that i took a lot of liberty's with my enthusiasm & energy levels blended everything together , his mix of Crow w my added parts and did a little mixing over here on my end truth is, it has been a total blast doing this song.. thank you Malcom for having me aboard on Crow as a player and collab mate ... it has been a real joy to work with you on Crow all the best, Kenny

Hi Rimshot, Drumstixkev and Lynn - Sincere thanks for listening and so pleased you enjoyed Kenny's amazing work on this piece. And Rimshot - very many thanks for the advice on the drum roll and the vocals - I will look into that. (wouldn't it be nice if Firefox did paragraphs!).

Hi Daryl - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like the development of this piece. Kenny has absolutely worked magic. I see the piece has now reached number 24 in the Soundclick Rock Music chart against almost a quarter of a million entries and number 2 in the Folk Rock Chart! Oh My! Hi Frank - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like it. I do agree about the lyrics being dark - probably due to the cheese I had the night before! Will I never learn?!

Get a feeling of Mike Oldfield on this track. Such a wide variety of soundscapes and melodies contained in the great piece. Enjoyed this a lot.

Hi Mark - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like it. Odd you should mention Mike Oldfield. Miriam Stockley, on who's wonderful voice the soft synth I used in this piece for the vocals (Vocaloid Miriam) is based, sings regularly with Mike Oldfield. Their music together is outstanding. Hi foxwolfen - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like it. Best Wishes Malcolm

Hi Joshua - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like this collab with Kenny. Others here have mentioned an oriental feel to my music while I think I am writing Celtic! You and they are certainly right although I didn't realise until they told me (I wrote "Thistle and Jade" in response! (see my Soundclick lylemusic page!). Best Wishes Malcolm

Not what I was expecting but I love it! Is the vocal artificial and if not what did you use on it? This whole thing is If I didn't see your picture I'd think you are Asian with Red hair. LOL. Not enough I can say except you and Kenny knocked this out of the park.

You should be proud Kenny. For what's its worth Malcolm, I got the celtic vibe. . I am in love with the the vocal effect. Blows me away. Sweet synths followed up with Kenny's lively guitar... its humbling.

Hi Warren, foxwolfen and Luke - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like this piece. Hi Kenny - I see this morning that this piece has hit number 1 in the Soundclick Folk Rock Chart! Wow! Hi Warren - Asians with Red hair? Clearly those visiting Celts were doing more than just drinking tea! As for the vocals, I used Vocaloid Miriam. As this software is sample-based, using the voice of Miriam Stockley, I suppose it lies half way between artificial and real. All I did then was work with compression and reverb to try and get a haunting feel to the voice. But I can tell you that Miriam is real to me! She certainly behaves like a real woman! Hi Foxwolfen - So pleased you got the Celtic vibe - so clearly I am not imagining the whole thing! Best Wishes Malcolm

Music sounds great, nice atmosphere to it. Not really convinced with the vocaloid thing personally. It's great hearing someone elses take on your stuff though isn't it ? I've really enjoyed the few collabs I've been involved with.

The music is awesome. The vocal is trippy. It gives the piece the feel of a fokloric piece mixed with an anime theme. i think that's cool.

Hi Rik - Sincere thanks. All due to Kenny's magic! Hi Paulo - Sincere thanks - You are so right about hearing someone else's take on your music. I must play a piece hundred's of times as I am writing it and loose all touch with reality. It needs a fresh perspective and Kenny has certainly done that! And much, much more! Hi Dubdisciple - Sincere thanks. I usually write folk / Celtic style music (and a little Jazz!) and with no real singer, Miriam's synth voice is the best I've found (so far!) for my genres. But of course it is a Japanese product so the other element is somewhat inevitable! But I must say that Miriam grows on me - I hope she feels the same way! Best Wishes Malcolm

Very impressive work by both of you, a really nice collaboration. To me the music itself isn't that dark, but the eerie vocals give it a somewhat menacing vibe. Combined with the excellent guitar work this has a surefire soundtrack vibe to it that would fit in a host of current films. Great work!
