Cryin in my beer man.......

Hey whats up dudes! Just built a new computer upgraded from dual core 32 bit vista with 4gb to quad Q8300 with 8gb and Win 7 64 bit. A no-brainer to upgrade to X1 from 8.5.3 right???.......yeah that about right a no brainer...why isn't this crap ever straightforward? My audio engine is taking a serious dump with two different interfaces and with different drivers and buffer settings....ordered a firewire card purported to be TI and it ended up being a via chipset....using windows legacy driver man. I spent so much time with this computer the last three days my fanny has grown to my chair. WHAT THE HECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it my via firewire card. HELP!!!

Did you upgrade to X1 on the same machine as 8.5?

    Assuming all drivers updated.

The solution for me was to completely de-install 8.5 - purge the registry of ALL Cakewalk entries; I took no chances and installed X1 fresh.
YMMV but I tried all manner of other stuff, including getting a TI firewire chip.

Much better nowm though still have the occasional lockup.

Which audio interface do you have?

Have you checked to see if the motherboard bios has an update for it? Video Card as well?

Do you have the X1a patch installed?

Be sure to check the version number of the SonitusFXDelay.dll to make sure it's not .184

Do you have quality 64-bit drivers for everything? This is key when moving to 64-bit.

I base my purchases on whether there are quality 64-bit drivers available.

There have been a number of threads mentioning the power settings causing issues in WIndows 7.  Also if you're using any wireless, that may be an issue.

But the most likely causes usually are "not up to date" drivers for audio and video.

Via chips shouldn't be so much an issue, btw.  But ya never know.

Just make sure you have the latest good "windows 7 compatible" drivers for everything.

Try different latency settings afterwards ... between 128 and 512 to see what affect that has, if any.

    "...A no-brainer to upgrade to X1 from 8.5.3 right???..."

Um--well, if you've looked in at this Forum at all then no, it's not at all a "no-brainer"---the "no-brainer," as in not using your head when it would have been good to, is in thinking X1 was actually ready for the public, which despite any spiffy tutorials you've seen, or ads for spiffy books you've seen - Is Not Ready.  Sorry you found out the hard way.

in all fairness, he is having problems that are not really X1 issues, but hardware issues it does seem-

I bet the right firewure card with a real TI chipset will do it-

Then again, as stated, if those motherboards have had issues, that is a variable as well.

Finally, if settings arent right int he program, of course that could be the problem as well-

Not really!  As I said before, different terminology, still the same language.  Common use of English even varies around the UK, as it does in the US (and also the rest of the English speaking world).

    No I disagree.
English is the language of the English ;-) anything else is NOT English.
Americans use words in the wrong context to mean something other than what they mean so they are not speaking English.
They may be speaking 'American' but last time I looked the language of Sonar and this forum is supposedly English.
I believe many Americans think they speak English but get it so hopelessly wrong.

yes well twigman the problem is that your limited and xenophobic beliefs about language are actually not based on a very clear understanding of how language works. Someone already pointed out that English usage varies, indeed fairly widely, between different areas of England... so does that mean that only people from your particular area of England speak English? What do people from other areas of England, who speak and use the language differently, speak?

It's a tired, boring, futile and misguided line of argument. Get over it. Language evolves. Use it however you like, and let others do the same.

Just my 'too sense' of course... perhaps others enjoy your attempts to police our usage of 'your' language. I don't.

Fair enough, perhaps xenophobic was a bit over the top, though to be precise the word (which incidentally comes from Greek, like a large part of the language you seem to claim is static, immutable and exclusive property of your own country) has as much to do with fear of the unknown as hatred. You can tell me whether your arrogant and belligerent stance on the subject of language has to do with fear of the unknown or not; if, that is, you are prone to that kind of self-reflection, which I rather doubt.

Furthermore: 'fanny' is slang, not a 'proper' word, so whether or not its usage varies within England is irrelevant; your slang is not better or more correct than other peoples' slang. All slang is 'wrong' - until, that is, it's accepted into conventional usage - at which point, and this is really the issue, the language has CHANGED and EVOLVED. In fact, it's how English evolved from Anglo-Saxon and before that, from Greek and Latin. Why you think it should stop evolving now, in whatever form you happen to think is correct and acceptable, is beyond me. It's certainly not going to.

If you'd care to continue this debate (actually, it's not worth any more of my time, so it won't be much of an argument, but feel free) perhaps you could refrain from using any words that derive from Greek, Latin or other sources? Thanks, I'd appreciate it.

I'll withdraw here and let others take this thread back on topic - or not, as you see fit.

yes well twigman the problem is that your limited and xenophobic beliefs about language are actually not based on a very clear understanding of how language works. Someone already pointed out that English usage varies, indeed fairly widely, between different areas of England... so does that mean that only people from your particular area of England speak English? What do people from other areas of England, who speak and use the language differently, speak?

FFS - xenophobic???? don't make me laugh - where's the hate in my post?
I'll wager there's not one part of England that uses the word fanny to describe any part of the body other than the female genitalia

Fair enough, perhaps xenophobic was a bit over the top, though to be precise the word (which incidentally comes from Greek, like a large part of the language you seem to claim is static, immutable and exclusive property of your own country) has as much to do with fear of the unknown as hatred.
I'm not afraid of the unknown....
    How do i show fear?

Crikey - you're taking this oh so seriously....I see you're in Berlin - so it's true then? Germans do not have a sense of humour?

Oh hell - now I'll get accused of racist stereotyping and more xenophobia.......

I was merely making a point that a chap really should not be refering to his fanny unless, of course, he is hermaphrodite ( oh christ another greek word - wtf am i going to do now?)
Hey, I was born in Germany...I still have a sense of humour...it may be dry, but it still counts!! Heeheehee....

I've heard women exclaiming about some guy's cute fanny...but never a guy doing it....oh...nevermind....

Heh. Actually I'm going to back down off my soapbox now and apologize, having had a bit of time to cool down, for getting a bit crazy on you there. I'm afraid you hit a bit of a nerve - well, to be precise I've noticed this has been an issue for you in these forums before, and so I was reacting to more than the current thread. And, indeed, more than just you.

I do live in Berlin but I'm Canadian, and while I do have a sense of humour (there's the Canadian - err, British spelling to show my colours - twice, in fact) I'm also sensitive about this issue. I've had a number of friends and colleagues over the years from England and Scotland who enjoy poking fun at me and my fellow 'trans-Atlantic' English speakers. I realize that, perhaps like you, they do it largely to get a rise - in which they are frequently successful - but it still rankles because I do think it's a misinformed and condescending position.

However, I'm the one that was being arrogant and belligerent, or at least haughty, so my apologies for that, and for making assumptions about your psychology, which was out of line. I'm not backing off of my position, mind you, but there's no reason to be a jerk about it, so I'll try to take it easy.

Here are some pointers to help out our misguided cousins:

So it's a joke then? (and a long running one at that - years). Canadians speak Canadian. The Irish speak Irish, etc? Or is it Canadian English? From now on the official language of the Cakewalk forum is American English... I think.
