Ctrl49 and Sonar Platinum

Hi,

I am unable to configure the M-Audio CTRL-49 on Sonar. On Preference I have already set up the midi device in input and output on both USB and Mackie/HUI. Then on the Control Surface I have added the Mackie Control and Input Port and Output Port have configure the CTRL49 - Mackie/HUI. On the bottom on each track it display the fader number but there is no control on Sonar.

I don't know if I need to configure something else.

Also I have notice that the main volume fader it maps to the volume of the interface and not the main master volume. Is this something I can change or it is suppose to be that way?

M-Audio is not completely MCU compatible. Find MackieControl.dll (normally in C:\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces) and replace it following these instructions: http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,341.0.html
Then in the settings (Sonar menu / Utilities / Mackie Control - 1) set "Disable handshake". You can also change other options there, including what is controlled by the master fader. Press "F1" to open help file.

Sonar always overwrite it on update, that part is expected.
But your observation means the registration of this DLL is broken. That is not expected.

    1. Install "standard" surfaces pack. https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013438/Control-Surface-Installers That should fix the problem with paranthesis.
    2. Replace MackieControl with moded version again. That should bring back "Disable handshake" option.

I have a Roland A300-PRO that I use with Sonar.  As far as I know, the A-PRO series are the only controllers with native support in Sonar through the use of the A-PRO plugin.

I tried a M-Audio keyboard controller years ago, and gave up on the control aspects and bought the A-PRO.  I still like the M-Audio as a keyboard, with a nice mod wheel action.

Sonar is awesome in the studio, but as far as live use goes, many people prefer something like Ableton Live, for a couple of reasons.  It's rock solid audio engine, and the controller support out of the box is unmatched.

See this list of controllers with auto-mapping to control common parameters in Live as soon as you plug them in.

    Warning, it's a long list...

    Thanks abacab,

What i was referring on the Ctrl-49 on the problems I had on a live performance is that the midi keyboard comes with a software called VIP that runs all the plugins you have. Here is where I have experience, in rehearsal, some problems and yet I dont trust it for live use. Ableton Live I think work great, I will try to use it instead of the VIP software but hope is only configuration or an update of the app since it looks that it should be easy to program patches and programs but again maybe I have to use it more to configure it right.
