Once again, thanks to everyone who's commented on this thread.

Update:  Paperwork was found for the funeral and arrangements have been made.  He will be buried Tuesday morning next to mom.

I still have the flu but I am starting to feel better.

Thanks Janet.  We would have had the service sooner but I have a brother in Costa Rica that still needs to get in.  The airlines have a strange policy.  They will set you up right away for a bereavement flight, providing you can show them a death certificate.  Death certificates aren't available until several weeks after death.  Sometimes it feels like the whole world is stacked against you.

Mark, yes, things are weird sometimes!  That's a long time to wait.  At least you'll be better by then, I hope!

Update.

Feeling much better, although kinda weak and dizzy.  Should be well enough to drive out to San Antonio monday.  My brother was able to hook up his flight from Costa Rica and will hit San Antonio sunday night.

In the meantime Ive been working on some music and posting here to keep my mind occupied.

I just realized...me and my siblings are all orphans now.

Glad you're starting to feel better.  And that your brother can get there tomorrow night.  And glad you're working on music.  That's gotta help.  I remember walking outside soon after I heard my mother had died years ago...and being surprised the flowers were still blooming.  Yes, life does still go on.  But joy seems tempered for awhile.  I'm thankful for the good memories of her though.

And those shocking realizations are hard, aren't they?

Sorry to hear that Mark.

I hope during your grieving period you can write a song dedicated to your dad's life.
It would be really special to have it played at the funeral along with some powerpoint photos.

I have done this twice in my life and it sure has helped me deal with grief. By the time I've finished writing and setting it to photos or video I am usually spent in the grief department. I also believe it is a way to help others grieve and deal with grief.

There is nothing wrong with grief and tears. Real men do it. And yes it is hard sometimes when grieving to watch the world still going through it's usual paces, traffic, flowers, conversations, work etc....

My favourite Psalm I have memorised for a long time that helps with grief, fear, uncertaintity is  PSALM 23
