Thank you very much, David.  I just visited your website and listened to the first song, and I can tell you know something about soul.

Very cool tune.  It really builds.  Very dramatic.  Love the string part and the vocals.  It's a strong piece.

Peace,

Ian

This is just beautiful!  In case I haven't said it before, you've got a great voice!

The only thing, and this is being pretty picky, is those real quick snare rolls (or whatever they're called)...they almost sound machine-gun like.

Anyway, this sounds just great all around!  :)

Thank you so much for your kind words, Janet.  About the snare rolls, you're absolutely right.  Unfortunately, they're part of a premix which also contain the strings and a few other parts, so I'm stuck with them.  This project was started in another studio, on a different computer, using an older version of Sonar, and I'm lucky I had this much to work with.  Thanks again for taking the time to listen.

nice stuff, Lynn!  the intro is a little long, IMO, I agree with the others.

lead vox are a little too hot in the mix, IMO.  they're dry and "in your face" - sounds good for this song, I think.

nice work!

Hi Lyn,
Sounds really good, agee that the nice intro could be a little shorter and just love the strings. A quality piece, sounds good on the mix.

@ timidi- considering the quality of your songs, I take this as a high compliment.

@ Bapu- thank you for taking the time.  Your critiques are always highly regarded.

@ Davidterry- thank you for the nice comments.  As I said earlier in this thread, in the future I may start the song 4 bars from the end of the intro rather than the full Monty.

Thanks again.

I thought this sounded great first time round and I was right.  I'd still lose a bit of the intro personally, but that said it didn't feel as long this time round  - maybe 'cos I was expecting it, or maybe it's grown on me ( or did you shorten it ?).

LOL @ Janet getting picky with the drums now that she's a drummer ! ;)

Trip Rock!

I loved everything about this, the tension build up in the intro almost became unbearable 'til the vocals came in.  I don't think it would work the same with it shorter.  Some of those cheezy synth parts let it down a little but I understand you are stuck with those for now.

Great vox, and a great melodramatic vibe it was kind of like Portishead on horseback, really creative, moody and enjoyable.

@ paulo-thank you for taking another listen.  Janet has a good ear, doesn't she?

@ Jonbouy-Portishead on horseback is one of the most interesting things I've heard so far.  Is that Western or English saddle?

Thanks again to all who have become part of this project with your excellent ears and advice.

It's a really interesting track is probably why, I couldn't think how best to describe it, I was getting a nice traditional bluesy vibe with the vox and guitars as well as a more underground trip hop feel running through it creating loads of tension.

The end result is really original and cool.

Portishead on horseback!  Great analogy, JB!

Yeah, it has an air of that, definitely.  It sounds great, Lynn.  Really nice work on the vox.  This is my favorite of yours, actually.  I like that it goes somewhat outside the box without becoming in-accessible to the masses.  Of course, *I* wanna hear the really tripped-out re-mix version with a double-echo vox effect... Almost dub.  With a telephone-y EQ running under the vox, too.  ;)

(Speaking of Portishead and Machine Gun snare rolls... Janet should check out Portishead's 'Machine Gun'. Now THERE's some machine gun snares!  That's the one Portishead track I really can't listen to for too long, as cool as it is.  Hard on the ears.  :D)

Thank you so much, Julianna.  That's high praise coming from you.  I wish I had the imagination to think outside of the box like you do, but I don't, so I'll have to make my box larger.

Me on drums?  Well, that depends on what type of outcome you want!  lol  Any type of drum program you have would do way better than me.  (Looks like I'll be playing once a week this summer, though, so some serious practice is in order...)

Anyway, I haven't even tried figuring out how to plug the things in!

Hey Lynn really cool song.  I dig the feel.

The vocals were great.  I agree with the above posts that the choir sound could be better and the intro might be a little long (what musician doesnt like a long intro though??)

I thought the writing, arrangement and production were great.  Nice job!

Mike, thanks for your comments and for taking the time to listen.  As I've said earlier, the cheesy chorus stabs are part of a premix, and I'm pretty much stuck with them for now.  If I knew then what I know now, I would have gone in a different direction.  As for the intro, the jury is still out, but I could easily cut it in half, which I may do on the next mix.

Janet, what can I say?  You now have a reputation.

This song sets up the mood really well. The ooh/ahhs could be pushed into the back a bit. There is too much going on in the composition. This tune is solid and really doesn't need all the extras. (like the vibra-slap) The vocals were solid and the songs basics are good.

Hey Lynn, sorry I haven't been able to listen to this till now, I was out of downloads.

I liked this from the moment it started, it has a real cool prog, psychedelic feel.  Vocals are a standout for me.  The mix is beautiful but I can hear a intermittent clicking just under everything.

Apart from that I can't fault it.

Nice.

Peace Ben
