Probably 'cause there's still too many bugs in X1b246 to release it as a demo. then even more people would know what all the fuss was about.

I'm actually just allowing my cynicism to take over. I figured the winking smilie would be a clue that I wasn't being overly serious with the above comment.
 
I'm sorry to say that the only fun I get out of SONAR X1 is playing with panu's mods and benstat's skin Editor for a bit of entertainment when I have the time. I marvel at what they've been able to do with the program; and they don't even have access to the source code, they're just using elements that are exposed to the user.
 
My only connection to Cakewalk now is SONAR 8.5.3.
 
It's been a good while since there's been a valid demo for SONAR. I think SONAR 8.0 was it.
 
 

Makes sense and the same thought occurred to me. Not sure if there's a substantial difference in the audio engine and interface performance between the full and LE versions, though of course the Pro Channel is missing and a few other things (also it's based on X1a so it's not up-to-the-minute either). 

For me it was partly about assessing whether it would run at all on my slightly-under-spec system and what it would look like on my slightly-under-spec screen. I was satisfied on both levels and liked enough of what I saw to make the jump to the full upgrade before I needed to register, and now it's uninstalled. 
With regards to X1 in general I'm in the glass-half-full category, I don't think every decision made was perfect but overall I think it's a decent evolution and they got enough right to make me happy. But of course that's just me.
