Demo release date update?

Hi-

Just wondering if someone from CW can say if there's an updated ETA for an X1 demo. About a month ago, Brandon thought it would be about a month or so: http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2267854

Thanks-

-Susan

X1 demo has been asked for since Nov last year... back then the answer was "soon". :S

Isn't there already an X1 demo? I thought a magazine in Germany released it with a recent issue.

LE was bundled in a German magazine, but as far as I can see it's only available for purchase ($59) otherwise. If it were free I'd try it, but it's not the same thing as an X1 demo. There's more about this in the thread I linked to above.

    Thanks-

Hi Susan. Glad to see this thread as it links in nicely to my thread whether there will be an X1C in May. I have seen other posts which referred to a Sonar Demo and X1C coming out together as a logical step.

So an anwer to your question could also throw light on my question if I have picked up others here right. If I had misinterpreted any information then my apologies.

Well, this "bundled version" seems to be only a trial for half a year. Can this be confirmed? This is not the full version of Sonar X1 LE, right?

Yeah, the $99 upgrade price was a total no-brainer, even if you just used it as a doorstop for six months until updates were all out.

That said, how long does it take to code in a timeout anyway? You think a demo would've been out immediately after release.

Brandon said a demo was "still firmly in the plan", so I remain hopeful. $99 is fair, but I wouldn't spend it for a doorstop, and based on what I've read here X1 might require an upgrade to my system, including monitor(s). At some point we're talking about real money!

Oh yeah, good point. I DID have to upgrade my GPU and monitors after X1. Though I have to say the $300 was well spent, as I got performance gains with every program I use. And the screen real estate doesn't hurt either.

confirmed. That was my demo, cost me 5 euro. You get 30 days to use it unregistered, and then you can get another 150 by registering it using the magazine's code. I used it for less than a week though before upgrading.

I'm not sure if this is kosher (although, I never registered it, so maybe?) but if I'm not breaking any rules and someone wants to PayPal me the postage (from Germany) I could theoretically mail the CD to someone...  pm me if interested, or if someone knows that this would definitely break an EULA you can let me know that too. I like to stay on the legal side.

My hope is fading. I hope not releasing a demo doesn't become the new norm for CW. That would be a mistake, IMO.

    Hi-

    This is my final plea/bump!

On March 29, Brandon wrote: "It's still firmly in the plan, but i wouldn't expect anything for at least a month (but hopefully not much longer than that if indeed that long). I wish I had news that it will be sooner, but I'd prefer to "keep it real"."  See http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2267854

Is it still "firmly in the plan"? Someone at CW must know. The only reason I never tried Cubase was because the demo requires a dongle, which I don't have and don't want.

It would be an upgrade for me, but I can't imagine paying for the full version without being able to try it first. Obviously some (many?) people do, but doesn't CW think a demo would be a good marketing tool? As others have said, there's a lot of competition out there, and all that I have even a vague interest in have demos.

Folks were asking about this back in November, and I have no idea whether they all made the switch or not, but I doubt I'm the only one who won't without being able to try it first.

It's May, fer cryin' out loud! If there won't be a demo, I'd like to know that, too. I won't do it, but I can see why people are tempted to look for an illegal version when the full purchase price is $399 and there's no way to try it out on your own system first. Videos are all well and good, but they don't tell me how it will look and feel here.

    Thanks-

Probably 'cause there's still too many bugs in X1b246 to release it as a demo. then even more people would know what all the fuss was about.

Oh I don't know about that. b246 is running quite stable on my system, and I'm seeing user satisfaction way up for people running it.

I think 8.5.3 will always have a soft spot in my heart because it was rock solid, and by comparison the initial X1 was a mess, but I think to lob generalized "bugs!" statements is a little inaccurate.

Of course, THAT said, I also can't understand why an X1 demo isn't available yet. Sheesh even if they just released a version with the entire audio engine ripped out just so peeps can experience the new UI would be helpful.

I'm surprised they haven't said anything, too. It's obviously not a priority, but they must have thought it was a good idea in the past, so I wonder why not this time around. I can't imagine they think it would hurt sales, so I guess they just don't think it would help enough to warrant the time involved(?). But how hard can it be, since they've already figured out how to work it with previous versions? Why would X1 be so different?

Anyway, thanks for the bump Undertow et. al. :)

Yeah, they packaged it as a starter kit... which I guess is why you gotta pay for it. Kinda bummed me out as well. I saw the available X1 LE update DL in my account and thought maybe I'd get a freebie LE version to play with, but no dice... oh well.

No demo - no money from me - as simple as that.

There are too many things I need to check myself if and how they're working in X1. If the Bakers think they can trick me into upgrading with "free this and reduced that" emails, they should reconsider their marketing strategies.
