Did anyone notice that an actual digital audio engineer stopped by the X forum?
Did anyone notice that an actual digital audio engineer stopped by the X forum? I think it was Saturday... the post seemed to plummet down the ladder. He dropped off some interesting news about DAW and Windows. It seemed like a couple hundred people may have read it... but there wasn't any discussion. It seems like a few years ago there would have been lot's of interest. I think it may be getting close to time to have a fresh computer built up. best regards, mike

I'm gathering it was the one that JoseC posted about Windows 8 not looking too good as a DAW os. Something that's been discussed elsewhere ad infinitum. It's more impressive a subject if you can keep 'em guessing of course. Scott (ADK) has mentioned it quite a bit, and there has been plenty of discussion on it already obviously Mike hasn't seen any of that yet. Of course he can change to make out it was another thread he was referring to when everyone realises this one isn't such a big deal. It's the McQ way.

And just think that this is probably the tip of the iceberg and 7 eighths or whatever may just be happening by way of private message... But as Brendan Behan said "Every cripple has his own way of walking."

Crg Where's the post? I'd like to read it. Here ya go Craig. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/762183-my-windows-7-vs-windows-8-dawbench-results-4.html Jose was basically highlighting the differences brought up here in relation to Windows 8 performance in contrast to figures noted by Noel on the Cakewalk blog. None of it is conclusive one way or the other as yet other than the fact that Windows 8 isn't looking that promising as a DAW platform thus far. If you have a well configured system already it's not even a concern. 8 has not yet been released to the public as yet and by the time Service pack 1 comes out who knows what issues may have been addressed or have even got worse. It's just the same ol' angst that comes along with every OS release. Here what Mike described as a real digital audio engineer, is looking at results posted after testing Cubase on a PCI card on Windows 8 and comparing those with X2 which is likely to be leveraging some specific Windows 8 changes after a promised update to X2 specifically after the new OS is released. It would have to be like for like to be a meaningful comparison, and besides my system, along with many others running on a W7 platform, is running like a dream and there's no obligation to migrate to the new OS anytime soon. It wouldn't have got much attention upstairs merely 'cause it was really one for the 'Computers' section.

why the condescending title and sneering attitude in this thread? I don't understand. Who gives a monkey's arse which threads get read and which don't? If I want to read and get an informed opinion about Windows 8, it probably wouldn't be on this forum.

"If I want to read and get an informed opinion about Windows 8, it probably wouldn't be on this forum." That statement exemplifies the self perpetuating trend in this forum. Jose is one of those guys who used to be here all the time sharing info with us. He knows digital audio inside and out, has designed digital audio hardware, written lots of code and stays up to date on OS dev. I regret having witnessed him drift away after becoming disillusioned with the go-team, no questions asked attitude that has evolved here. I still have a lot of stuff to learn from him. Back in the hey day there were a couple dozen guys of his caliber that discussed stuff here because they thought SONAR was the coolest and that made this forum one of the most distinctive places on the entire internet. It was a central clearing house for learning about DAW... it was way way more exacting and pertinent than the WTFV book reports that serve as peer to peer help here these days. Now it seems, few people even recognize who it was that was making a comment. Times, they are a changing. best, mike
