Bootcamp works beautifully with Sonar. Its more about having your Mac Vsts and AU's available, not the OS debacle.

I, for one, am interested in looking at DP on PC. The install base for DP may be small, but its users are quite enthusiastic in their support for it. The fact that it exists at all when a less-expensive full-featured Mac alternative is available tells me it must have something to offer.

My main concern is that the PC version may be slower and buggier than the Mac version, and MOTU support personnel may not have enough Windows expertise to adequately advise Windows users and to diagnose problems.

Cakewalk has spent many years tweaking SONAR to extract every last drop of performance out of Windows. You can't replicate that with a compiler switch.

It should be an interesting thing to watch develop over time flip. An interesting time indeed on the Mac side of things seeing all the great PC software also available.

I was one step away from buying a Mac for the studio, specifically to have access to Digital Performer. If you get the chance, check out the current version on a Mac. It is a joy to work with. It's not better than Sonar, nor is it worse, just different, and different enough that it will help you do things you can't do in Sonar, and then you'll get frustrated, and use Sonar to do things you can't do in DP. This is exciting!!

Hey, Bill, how's automation editing in DP? That's the main reason I'm even considering abandoning SONAR.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Not that it changes anything, but until 2007, Logic used to be more expensive than DP ($999 vs $795). That's 5 years ago, but I think that by then, most of DP's current loyal followers had already adopted it.

Hi Bitflip... this is obviously a guess at this point, since no one knows exactly what DP on Windows will be - well, except the developers, the product managers, the beta testers, and so one! I didn't do a lot with automation when I used DP... mostly I used it for it's timeline capabilities, and the lovely arranger window, and it also did a nice job with support for video. Not sure how much of this is depending on Core Audio/MIDI. Oh, and nothing worked better for working with hardware synthesizers and samplers!!!! With VIs, well I don't know about them either... Oh yeah - automation. What I do remember was that it was pretty easy to draw in volume and pan, I don't recall using it to control anything else, and I probably didn't. Sorry I can't provide more info. As far as abandoning Sonar - I have no plans at the moment to do so. Augment it, yes, but I'm pretty comfortable with it at this point (since CWPA6). I held off on the leap from 8.5 to X1, and I am really sorry I did. I find the new workflow suits me quite well - wish I could find ANY other qualifier key than "alt" for entering notes, and it did take me a while to get used to the new automation bit with the drop down menus... I still look in the right click menu every once in a while! To me the combination of DP and Sonar will be pretty nice, along with Finale and Sound Forge and WaveLab... it's impossible right now to find one tool that does everything!!! (now if the'd just port "M" to Windows!!!)
