No. I walk a lot in my job, I mean a lot, plus hauling barges and toting bales. I'm usually wore out at the end of the day.
I'm the same weight I was in 1977 when I joined the Air Force, 155 lbs.

Re: Do you exercise regularly? 2016/03/10 01:32:23 (permalink)
Strange topic, but it is the coffee house...for me exercise is paramount.  In January I walked 100km, in February I walked 106km...I love tech and how it can record this ****.  I also do some weight training, about 60 reps on each arm 2-3 times a week, along with 30 overheads and 10 squats, I alternate this with 20 push-ups...I've decided not to push back to where I was when I was 30, which was 40 push-ups a set.  At one point I got up to 120 in 20 mins.  It's also important to rest the body, and let it heal...hence I alternate between weights and push-ups, and I don't do any weight training on the weekends.

Another trick I've learnt is to use a calorie counter hooked into my smartwatch and google fit.  I've lost 4kg in the last 2 months on the beer, chocolate and cheese diet...and this is no ****.  People really have no idea about what they eat and drink, and how much energy the body needs or uses.

Finally herbal supplements are super important, I take Ginkgo Biloba, Milk Thistle, St Johns Wort, Damiana, and fish oil capsules.  Plus I eat almost 95% healthy fresh food...not too anal though...I have the odd pizza :).  Damiana, is cheaper than viagra to fellows...morning wood...still and I've just turned 40 lol.

Peace Ben

Oh, when I checked last month my resting heart rate was 51 ;)

Or you could reduce your diet by 500 calories per day to get a similar result. That would be the equivalent of cutting out three beers or four apples per day (depending on which you think is healthier)

You'd need to cut out 10 apples, not 4. You'd also need to be a beer drinking horse.

I honestly thing two of the most valuable exercises are rowing and chin-ups (or pull ups). Between them these will develop so many muscles and increase overall strength.

Another great one I do from time to time is backwards walking on an incline (on the treadmill of course!) Not only does it burn a lot of calories but it's also good for the brain to do something which is novel and unnatural to it. It's also good for the balance.

I do part of my cool-down on the elliptical in reverse.  I also make sure there are intervals where I'm really working my arms extra hard.  I never let them just hang for the ride.

Apples come in different sizes. The number I used is for a large apple. A medium apple (7 oz) is 93 calories so that would be 5 not three but a long way from 10.
Budwiser contains 143 cal/12oz Coors 148. So about 3.5 of those. Guinness Extra Stout is more. The light beers can be considerably less. Bud Light at 95 would be 5.2. If your horse drinks light beer he does not need to run as much.

Of course, if your horse drinks Budweiser (in any form), you probably should put it down.

I've had beer in 18 different countries and, still, Budwiper is the worst tasting (albeit best marketed) beer I've ever had.

Bubbaweiser be nasty.  That Beech-wood must've been first used as outhouse doors.  Or floors.

I've heard if an American walks into an Irish pub and asks for a cold Budweiser he gets thrown out the door head first.

I'll have to tell that to an Irish friend of mine (originally from Dublin) who happens to own an Irish pub!

I hear that those down under have a similar revulsion to Fosters.

Fortunately, I live in an area that has more micro-brew beer than France has wines!  Some really good stuff too, though I certainly wouldn't pass up some nice Speckled Hen (among others).

My favorite beer is cold,

but I will drink warm beer too.

What I have gleaned from this is that diet trumps exercise.  I am going to perform a little experiment; limit beer intake for six weeks, and continue my exercise routine.  Also, focus on the fruits and veggies.  Sharkey, I will implement the interval routine you speak of.  I don't have a dog, so I'll have to find another motivation to take a walk.

Mr. Mosquito, good luck on your journey.  I am focused on -15#.  I hope to do that by the end of July.

I discovered long ago that my 1/2 bottle of wine a day ( for heart health ) makes a significant difference in my weight.  I'm beginning to think the actual benefit comes from the increased activity level req'd to keep that weight off.

I wouldn't say one trumps the other. Diet AND exercise need each other in equal measures. Neglecting either one will dramtically slow your process. Many people are disheartened when using exercise for weight loss because they don't realize how much heavier than fat muscle is, and they sometimes even gain weight by exercising. Your body weight is only half the story. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn in your day to day activities. Exercise makes your body more efficient.

What happens to a Nigerian if they walk into an Irish pub and ask for a cold Budweiser?

You're not the only one ... my mom is 95, and she swore to a glass of red wine every dinner, until these past 4 years, when she needs someone to take care of her.

I guess red wine is good for an extra ten years or twenty?
