One year away from declining to go to London with Chas Sandford.

Bapu,
I played with Chas on Jimmy Messina's album "One More Mile".  Here are the credits:

(Warner Brothers 7599 - 26560 - 2)

[color=#000000 font="verdana, arial, helvetica"]Produzent / Producer: Jim Messina
Musiker / Musicians:

Rim,

Chas was the best guitarist I had played with until that moment. Without ever "teaching" me anything I learned so much about playing bass.

Would I have had fame if I had gone to London? Who knows, but I would not have gotten married and Jason and my daughter would be, nor my three beautiful, smart & funny grandsons.

I'll take the path I led.

I was 8.

And not in the least bit upset that The Beatles had broken up.

I was 7.  I had no idea the Beatles were together.

I was taking piano lessons.
I remember looking at the moon after/during a moonwalk and asking my dad why I couldn't see them on the moon if they were there.
we had CB radios in both cars and a base unit.
we had 2 rotary dial telephones in the house both wall hanging units.  one was black the other was that bright yellow color.

LOL. . .Rotary phones! I also remember the TV had a dial to turn to change the channels.  Saturdays morning were the best I would sit on the SHAG carpet and watch 'THE BANANA SPLITS' & reruns of 'THE MONKEES'

I was 15 and remember it well. It was the year that
a local band hired me to play.
They were all over 30, married and raising families and played
at the largest most popular nightclub. I stayed with them
for seven years playing there most every weekend.

I had built a name from playing in school rock bands and
the most popular rock bands from 13 so they wanted to
"update" their sound and thought I was the one.

I made $30.00 a night. I quit the sucking business at the end
of '85 and after 15 years most bands were lucky to $50.00
per member, per night. The band I ended the trip with refused
to play for less than $100.00 per member, per night. We were
lucky and stayed busy.

I played a gold top LP that my dad bought for me in '69.
I also had other Gibsons- 347 and L5S but the LPs were my main
up to early '80s when a Japanese Strat with a single HB changed everything.

I remember much more about the '70s- which really is amazing I remember
anything at all....but I'll shut-up.

Writing this reminded me...we learned songs by listening to the Jukeboxes..lol...
IIRC it was 3 plays for a quarter so pick the three ya wanted to learn and get it
right the first time! LOL.

Do you still have the 1969 LP?  That would be SWEET!

we eventually bought a fancy antenna.  it was mounted on a large, tall pole and it was motorized to turn 360* for "dialing in" the best reception.

That was the Year I Knew Everything.
I became a teenager.
Lived in Germany and spent most of my time playing baseball or basketball, or up on the 4th floor playing my brother's Framus guitar through a Farfisa keyboard amp. Sometimes there was a drum kit there and we would bang on that, too. Sometimes the drummer would show up and we judged how good we were by the number of requests we got (to turn it down!).
Rode the rails all over Frankfurt. It was a great place to be a kid.

I was eleven.

Loved Zepplin and Deep Purple.  Got hit a lot by my dad.  Started growing long hair.  Already experimented with illicit substances.  Saw my first concert (Leon Russell).  Built guitar amp out of brother's radio.

I was born June 17, 1970

I was crying, eating,  peeing, pooping, burping, throwing up, and sleeping a lot that first year of life.

I guess not much has change for me now in 2012 at 42 years old ... that's all I pretty much do today

some things never change

1970: living in Munich, Germany, ostensibly to attend college. Playing in a band, of course. Vox Continental and Kustom Naugahyde-covered amp with 3 15's.

Re: the price of stuff. Most people gauge by milk, bread and gasoline. I go by gear. My microphone was an SM57 and it cost $35. My amp was $400. I bought an acoustic guitar by substituting C-rations for cafeteria meals to save up $50. I remember an ad on the dorm wall, a neighbor selling a Fuzz Face for $4. I think they were about $15 new, and $200 today.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

In 1970 Finland  a colour TV costed about two months average salary of an industrial worker.
Now it's something like 2-3 days salary.

When I went out for weekend 10 Fmk ( exchange rate then about 3 dollars) got me a bottle of red wine, 20 pack of Marlboro and a two way bus trip to where we used to hang out with my friends.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

$400. in 1970! Must of been a nice amp. A lot of GREAT memories from all here!

I was 8.

And not in the least bit upset that The Beatles had broken up.

I was 7.  I had no idea the Beatles were together.

Ironically, I almost went to see the Beatles in '65 but my parents used me as a reason not to go - no babysitter available - some relatives were the ones pressuring them to go and take me, but they were more into the Big Band era music.  Oh well.  Gosh, I would have had one up on Ben then, eh?

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

What's SAD is I knew of The Monkees before The Beatles.  Only because my sister loved Davy Jones and had pics/albums all over the house.
