I still use the EQ, Gate, and Compressor all the time. Delay a little but I've been trying others. The Modulator is pretty nutty when you want to experiment. I actually like their no-fuss UIs!

Sonitus Gate is one of the best gates you'll find anywhere. Sonitus reverb always seems to fit well anywhere you use it. It makes a great place-holder reverb that you can swap out with more boutique choices later, but you may well keep it in, as it's a very neutral verb. Also, I'm still a big fan of the multi-band compressor. Sure, it may not be as precise as the newer linear multibands, but it has a very small resource footprint and often sounds really nice. I've often wondered why CW has never given the Sonitus plug-ins a new coat of paint. They still stand up acoustically, but look pretty dated by today's standards.

I've seen Mr. Anderton advocate for them often. One good thing is that they're included in all three versions of Sonar, so when he does his Friday Tip of the Week using them (as his tips often do), all users can benefit.

I use the delay pretty regularly, sometimes the gate...not keen on the reverb though, it sounds a bit 'brash' for my taste. Everytime I use a different delay I always end up going back to the Sonitus one.

Thanks everyone: Your responses were great and confirmed that this plugin is not simply a place holder as I had imagined.
Thank you!

Not much anymore. But... I like the delay a lot and the only reason I stopped using it was a bug that caused clicking during tempo changes when tempo sync is enabled. I can work around it by automating the Sync button, but it's a nuisance. But if you don't have any tempo changes it's a wonderful delay. Unfortunately, I am big on tempo maps. I used to use the multiband compressor a lot, mostly as a bus compressor, before switching to dynamic equalizers. It's still quite good and very easy to use. I just like MDynamicEQ better. The modulator is also very good, and I still use it sometimes as a flanger, even though I've got fancier plugins that can also do that. The compressor remains my favorite in the suite, and still gets used occasionally for sidechained compression. I like the way it graphically shows the level bouncing around the knee, which is a nice convenience for setting both threshold and knee. I like that the knee is continuously adjustable. I have other comps that do these things, but the Sonitus' graphic is simpler and simpler is often better. I once spent a day opening up old projects to see what I'd used way back when. Two of them had especially nice-sounding reverb on them. When I found out what I'd used back then it surprised me: the much-maligned Pantheon and the I-don't-get-no-respect Sonitus Reverb. It was a reminder that the Sonitus reverb was pretty good. And all of them are very CPU efficient. Back in 2003, programmers paid more attention to optimization out of necessity. Nowadays, it's an afterthought. Unfortunately, that's also an indication of their age. They haven't been enhanced in years and probably won't ever be. But the bottom line is that you can make a great production using nothing but the Sonitus effects. Let an experienced mixer using only stock plugins go up against a novice with every plugin known to man at his disposal. Experience will trump software every time.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Yes I do. Sonitus compressor mostly, because I like to see where level is on the compressor curve, and what happens to the curve when I change knee, gain and so on. Most tracks are just a bit compressed in my projects, and the Sonitus is the lightest tool to put anywhere (light in term of resources), copied and pasted from track to track in the mixer view. Then I sometimes use the delay, which has a lot of features, with its 2 independent lines. The modulator finally, when I want to be a little odd. I used to use also the eq, but now I prefer the prochannel. Finally never used the others, perhaps gate once.

Yes, I do. On about every song. I get pretty good bass - bass drum separation using side chain compression with the single channel compressor. I like to mic the bass drum with a d112 and either a 414 or an r121. That goes to a submix. Then the bass guitar DI and another d112 on the bass speaker cabinet to its own submix. I then create a master bass submix. I put that sonitus compressor on the bass guitar submix - then output that bass guitar submix to the master bass submix. I add a send from the bass drum submix to the bass guitar submix sonitus compresser, and output the bass drum submix to the master bass submix. I then low pass on the bass d112 at below 200 or so, and high pass on the bass di at 200 or so. I can use one of many compressors but that Sonitus display helps me tweek fast and it sounds great.

I have almost every kind of processor and efx at least 5 times over. Much more than I'll ever want or need. And with the exception of the 30th Anniversary plugins and FX chains, I've never used Sonitus processors. I'm kind of hooked on iZotope products. Neutron, Nectar, and Ozone for mastering are my go-to production bundles. And now with their O8N2 or Music Production Suite, it's got everything you could possibly want or need. It was their cool UI that finally won me over (about 3 versions ago)
There are lots of other bundles or suites that are not as memory intensive as Izotope, including the Sonitus Suite. But it always seems to come down to whatever you are most comfortable in using. I look at this list of processors and FX that come with Sonar Platinum and often think to myself, hmm, maybe I should check that one out. There's just so much available though, and I get easily overwhelmed at the choices, along with the learning curves for the one's i haven't tried yet. So yeah, I basically stick to what I'm used to....which is Izotope products and TH3 for my guitar processing. I also have more VSTi's than I will ever use. Dozens of guitars, organs, basses, pianos, wind and string instruments, drums and percussion instruments. Enough virtual gear to fill a small warehouse if they were actual physical instruments.
But I'm like a cat with ADD, something shiny and new enters my line of vision, and I'm like "Oooh, that looks cool". It's so hard to keep up with everything. It seems something new and revolutionary is hitting the market every week.

You can learn a lot about compression working through the GUI of the SONitus comp.

I use most of them, I would say the compressor is my favorite, followed by the delay. EQ is perfect for utility, and not relying on visual feedback to tune. Reverb is nice for cranking the Early reflections to add a subtle sense of space to dry samples. Multi-band was a great help before I discovered dynamic EQ. Gate has many helpful features as well. I could do a mix with just these, and come up with a competitive mix, I think (except I would probably miss using saturation too much).

This was something I had looked into. Unfortunately, you cannot record with these FX on the RME. Meaning they were not design for such purpose and so there are no settings which will easily allow you to accomplish this. There are ways to do this but based on what I have researched, the work does not merit the benefits. According to RME these effects are simply design as a way to monitor playback. I also found a discussion on another forum regarding this very topic and the conclusion was no, it cannot be done that way. You could record if the unit was being used as stand alone but not if you are getting the audio from within Sonar and than trying to add FX and return it to record in Sonar. Nothing is impossible.
