@dontletmedrown I'm not bent out shape a bug, a fundamental flaw in Sonar is being discussed (not to sugar coat it anymore) I think its very important. and you seem to be trying to shift the focus I perfer to stay on point. thats all. I'm monitoring this thread to see if a cakewalk rep will weigh in to the discussion. Now if your really curious about the technology go read about it. I have provided the links, and these sites have forums you can research it for yourself, walk you own talk as they say.

dontletmedrown I didn't try Russel's test. I do lots of automation in my projects and I have had lots of clients that wanted me to chop out sections of the song. I don't know what I'm doing different than Russel, but the bus envelopes always get chopped the way I would expect them to. I always do a CTRL+A then make my selection on the timeline, then delete. Don't know if that is helpful at all. I didn't read the entire thread. I wonder what makes the difference between having it work and having it not work. Are you making the selection, then using Edit -> Delete -> Delete Hole, or are you hitting the Delete key and then closing the gap some other way?

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. I'm not doing anything fancy, just: CTRL+A, then I drag on the numbered timeline to select, then edit->delete->delete hole. If I get time in the next few days I will try the session you uploaded and see if I have the same problem.

If I get time in the next few days I will try the session you uploaded and see if I have the same problem. That may be it - dragging in the timeline. If you select a time range by dragging in the timeline, the bus pane automatically deselects. Everything in the track pane continues to be highlighted, but not in the bus pane. As far as I can tell, this means that the edit operation doesn't get applied to the bus envelopes at all. Sure, it means that the bus envelopes don't get mangled; but they also don't get shifted. Did I mis-observe that, though? Does the "Delete Hole" operation somehow apply to all buses as well, if only the track pane is selected?

Ok, you're right! I just tried it on my most recent project. The bus envelope gets de-selected and does not come along for the ride. Boooooooo! At least this is good to know that I will need to redraw the automation past the edit point if I make a tweak like that. Thanks for pointing this out Russel! BTW, I'm using Sonar 8.5.2.

I thought maybe I made a big mistake, and it was actually possible to do the edit. Oh well. Sorry to be the bringer of bad tidings. This issue is getting a lot more attention here on the forum than it had in the past, though, so maybe we'll get some momentum for a fix in an upcoming patch or upgrade.

pcuser32 @rtgraham I can look at your mix an tell you need to come over to protools or maybe neundo if you afford it, calkwalk is holding you hostage<g>... you should have a look at vienna ensemble pro, or audioport universal make sonar your windows plugin host player you can still create in sonar, slave it to protools or slave protools to sonar if makes you feel better. well thats how we work. /pcuser Interesting. The AudioPort product appears to have been created primarily as a solution for streaming the DVZ Strings product to a host, and I suspect the same may be true of the Vienna product (though I don't know that product's history as well). A solution like this would still mean needing my own Pro Tools HD rig; not only expensive, but I've learned quite extensively over the past several years that Pro Tools has its own set of issues. I do like PT's automation, but the large mixes we did in a PTHD environment were *not* problem-free, especially when it came time to bounce sample-accurate stems. That's a whole other discussion though.
