Does anyone live in Colorado?

I wish I did... I have a friend who will be driving through Colorado in the near future... maybe I can get him to pick up something for me. He heeee. What a presumptious government we have to tell us that something that grows on planet earth is illegal for us, as people, to possess. Doesn't that seem wrong to you? I'm sure they are making a fortune off our loss.

Maybe I should just go to Bonaroo... but that has become extremely expensive.

In a related story, Colorado is reporting a severe shortage of potato chips, Frito's, and chocolate bars in its corner stores.

From what I hear they are charging about 4x the cost of the stuff on the street. I don't think that will work. People will buy legal once then buy from the street to refill their legal container, if they have the connections. They would be stupid not to.. but then again.. LOL.

Does anyone live in Colorado?

Yes, the population of the state of Colorado is in excess of 5.2 million.

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/08000.html

Washington State recently (well a bit over a year ago now) passed a law permitting the growth possession and sale of Marijuana, and has promulgated rules for its implementation. Total statewide area for legal production of MJ will be limited to two million square feet, which is less than 46 acres. That is a lot for a backyard grow, but hardly enough to put massive downward pressure on the price. Unlicensed growing is illegal, self use by the licensed grower would likely run afoul of the requirement that MJ be purchased from a licensed retail store (different license). So this is far from a grow it yourself law, and there is already discussion about limiting untaxed cooperative gardens for medical marijuana which are currently permitted. The taxes and license fees are high, there will be a limit of 360 retail stores in the state, involved persons are required to carry liability insurance (does the Gekko sell MJ policies?), and anyone involved in even renting property for growing, transport, storage or sale is still subject to forfeiture of that  property by the Federal Government, as well as criminal penalties. etc. So risk is not low and cheap is not likely. Undoubtedly there will be far more illegal MJ being produced in and being smuggled into the state than legal production here. At least the Liquor Control Board will be getting a shot at some of the Cartels' profits, and smokers will have a defense that the stuff in their pipe is the legitimate variety when overzealous police arrest them.

I spent most of my life in Colorado. Loved that Mesa Blue. Elegant bouquet, and full bodied flavor. You had to pace yourself, because it would creep on you.

Dave and I already live in the "other" state where things are legal (though, for full disclosure, I don't partake - never smoked anything in my entire life actually).

I'm actually shocked that it's not legal in Oregon.  I think more people have it everyday there than in Washington and Colorado combined!

I think it's the state flower in Oregon. But we're also talking about the only state where it's illegal to operate a gas pump. You can, however, legally kill yourself there.

[EDIT] Correction: New Jersey also prohibits pumping your own gas. It's also been known to have one or two pot-smokers, although historically it's been a booze-fueled locale. At least, according to the documentary "Boardwalk Empire".

they are talking about this here (utah), we get a lot of coloradoans driving to MOAB all year, and the news is saying that if you get pulled for some reason in utah after you got stoned the week before in summit county, and they test you for DUI, even if you are not high, you will fail the test, and you will be charged with dui.

I would rather pay 4x the street price to get something that wasn't put out by hardened criminals. It's kind of like the difference between single malt Scotch and something whipped up in the bath tub. It will never happen in Canada.

It stays in your blood for about 30 days at a level that will show you as impaired... not god. They are ging to have to come up with better testing methods.

Also I agree about the current potency. This stuff they have engineered is NOTHING like the Mexican dirt weed we used to smoke, or even the Jamaican or Columbian Gold... the Jamaican was really heady, the CG would make you sit and laugh or make small animal noises, the Oaxacan long bud was OK. The only stuff I had in the 70s that scared me was some back powdered stuff a GI brought back from Viet Nam... that stuff made my VW van look 30 ft long when I looked back, it had my girlfriend curled up in the floorboard crying. MJ, can be a social and fun thing but it can be way over the line if it has too much THC... and most of the stuff that is engineered these days has a high content. I would NOT like that... of course a half a toke is probably healthier than a whole fatty, LOL.

I'll take fun and laughing over fear and crying any day... then there is the peeping out through the curtains thing. Sometimes thinking about doing something is better than actually doing it. Unless, of course, you are young and immortal.

This is not far from the truth. MJ use is detectable in urine or blood weeks after using it and long after any detectable impairment related to THC is evident in behavioral tests. Some states use evidence of use of any illegal substance as prima facie evidence of impairment. The Washington law also includes a blood level of THC for impairment that was more or less pulled out of the regulatory rectum. The relationship of blood alcohol level to impairment is much more reliable than that with THC, and there is considerable worry that users of medical marijuana, not just recreational users,  will be effectively banned from driving. But it is an underappreciated fact that users of any prescription or OTC medication that may impair performance are also subject to charges of driving while under the influence in Washington. Having a prescription is no defense.

There's a little known thing about Washington...  The Judges own the jails (at least down here in Clark County), so it's in THEIR best interests to put as many people in them as they can.  They get lots of kick backs that way from the Federal government.  Needless to say, they make the rules so that it's easy to get a DUI (of any kind).

As bitflipper said, the stuff here is so powerful that most of it is probably wasted. I see these young kids smoking "blunts" and want to tell them that they are totally wasting anything past the first few hits.
