Probably already said but these cymbals are by far the best sampled cymbals I have ever used... and the guys from BFD sampled and programmed them so you have complete control over how they are going to sound in a mix.  At first, I was worried that the AIR of the OH samples wouldn't sit well with kit piece samples from other studios but this was a NON ISSUE.

No BRAINER.. GET THEM... I was mad I paid full price but like them so much that I have all three packs and use all three packs... THEY ARE GREAT.

IMHO

A hearty THANKS to SteveC for tipping us to this incredible deal! (Addiction or not, I couldn't pass this up.) I might have never known about this outrageous bargain if not for the timely post

No problem at all!

I was happy to see that so many were familiar with it and had nothing but positive feedback.   It sure looked good on paper, but the proof is in the pudding.   And apparently this is a flavor that everyone likes.

Yes Bapu, that's exactly what I was thinking.   You're obviously ahead of the game.

BTW, do you use your foot to change the primary resonant frequency?

hmm... Says it's a box (too big for download) and they don't ship internationally. I guess as a Canuckian I'm out of luck. :-(

Maybe the US will take over Canada while this deal is still on...i'm in Toronto, and i'm drooling over this package; i was thinking it was a steal for about $125 on the FXpansion site.

Any of you BFD owners south of the border feel like getting busy with a hostile takeover, of our country?

Wait, you have fighting pants? I only have drinking pants! Perhaps I need another pair of trousers.

Perhaps that's also why the U.S. hasn't taken over Canada....it's the fighting pants.

Another heads-up - the same Gen16 program is included for FREE in the Yamaha Motif Anniversary Pack, which is basically 512MB of Flash RAM for the Motif XF bundled with a bunch of other things. I have the Pack, so have installed the Gen16 and the cymbal sounds are fantastic. The host is basically BFD Eco. With the Pack, you also get to download FXpansion's Yamaha Maple Superior drumset for free, so you can use kit mode and assemble a really great-sounding kit.

I haven't figured out a way to "divorce" the cymbals from BFD Eco for use in other programs (at least not yet) but have no problems running drum programs in parallel.

The cymbals really do sound fabulous.

Re:Does anyone use the Zildjian Gen16 Cymbal Pack? 2012/07/13 02:35:28 (permalink)

From that review:-

Pros: A generous assortment of coveted Zildjian cymbals with expressive articulations. Mallet, rods, and brushes along with sticked versions.
Cons: Manual has a couple of minor organizational glitches. Not compatible with BFD or BFD2. No importation of Standard MIDI files.

I don't think that the cons will matter that much. The rest of the review piques my interest even more, and I am sorely tempted to blow another £83 in the FXpansion shop. Just so that I can say that I've got it...

Seriously, I've tried a couple of times to start a song with some rather clichéd quiet cynbals, but the result has never been that good, even with Battery. After reading the review, and if it is correct that the samples play polyphonically, and fade naturally, with multiple hit zones and sticks, I just have to have this product...

The cons regarding incompatibility with BFD2 may have been true at the time of review but that is no longer the case according to the fxpansion overview.

I'm sorely tempted too but may have to wait. I have until the end of August which is good news.

Doesn't the FXpansion offer run out at the end of July?

I've been after this for ages, but even with the FXpansion 30% it was still a bit too expensive for me. The AudioMidi deal being US only is just rubbing salt in the wounds

You might be right. I was thinking of the Rock legends from platinum.
Not sure how long the audiomidi no brainer is for but since we're both in the UK James I guess it's a non issue

Yes, just checked my emails, the 30% off sale is til the end of the month.
Glad you mentioned that.

You're welcome.  Anything to enhance your internal conflict.

I receive AudioMIDI's no-brainer emails every week, but TBH most don't do much for me.   This one had a great price for something that looked very interesting so I was happy to see that so many others really liked it.   I'm hoping it'll be among the best no-brainers!

I have all three packs and I use them in BFD2 (x64) in Sonar X1 (x64).... so not only do these cymbals sound terrific, they are high end processing compatible.

Hurry and get them if the deal is still on...  I remember, they had a deal at Fxpansion wherein when you bought the base cymbals,  you got the two add on packs FREE.... not as good as $25 though...

I paid full price for mine but then I have been using them for almost one year now.

I LOVE THEM. The room mics really give the cymbals more life when used with the direct and OH mics.

I wonder. If you already have BFD-eco, will you have to install it's version to get the kit/cymbal setup?
