"In the 60's we had Gentle Giant

I gave 'Scenes..' a good listen  yesterday while I was driving around, and I heard a lot of Gentle Giant influence in there, along with plenty of Rush. It's astonishing musicianship though, mind blowing stuff actually. I'm still not sold on the vocals (or the lyrics) though, they come across as a bit of an afterthought for the most part.

Really enjoyed those 3 vids though, Mangini has his work cut out, but it looks like he can handle it!

Sad thing is Portnoy was an active songwriter/composer in DT. He left DT and joined Avenged Sevenfold, am i right? I still love air drumming 'Dark Eternal Night' though.

Check out my band's song on YouTube!

he joined AS short-term, has now left. he was never a composer in DT, but he wrote a lot of the lyrics, and certainly did a lot of arrangements of songs...now, judging by the Rudess/Petrucci/LaBrie solo albums, they tend to feature shorter more to-the-point songs, so maybe we will get rid of some of the wankery now?

Oh, and re James' voice, he actually had a very bad throat infection at the end of the 90s, and certainly his vocal performances suffered, but now it is back to how it was, and for me from Octavarium on the albums feature some of his strongest performances, and his live voice is now back to full strength too. So no worries there!
