Drop Dead Gorgeous feat. funky bass by Frank Tanton
Hi Folks. Had a little fun with this one, RnB/Pop with some funky tones and catchy melodies. Never really quite satisfied with it. Have a listen and give your honest opinions. EDITED - 06 MAY 2011 New version edited by Frank (notnat) which includes bass and some new guitar. Drop Dead Gorgeous (new bass added by Frank) Cian

Yes Janet, could your write me a song too please! Thanks BIABDude, Mix may have a bit too high end sparkle, I might try fiddle with it just to balance it out a little better. Anyone else find the same? Cian

Yeah, I can see why you had fun with this. It's great. :) It maybe a little bright, but I imagine I wouldn't have thought of it if it hadn't been brought up. I can imagine this being on the radio. Great job! I'd better go work on that song now. :)

I like it. Catchy song, good beat, good mix, good vocals. I like you attention to details on the panning. Not my personal cup of tea (not a dance fan) but nonetheless, very good. My daughter (21) is going to add this song to her exercise regiment songlist.

Pretty cool production there Cain :-) I may try to EQ the whistle a little, on my phones it was a little harsh, but toward the end of the song, it was less noticeable for me. Other than that the mix sounds really tight! I wrote one for Janet called Raving Beauty? And people who know her said I was half right? She's Raving! LOL!

Good job. Has a unique vibe to it. especially the whistle. I think the drop dead gorgeous line should be on the 1/4 note beat. nice pop. good hook.

Hey Cian, this is pretty cool. I'd bump up the lows and mid lows on this some, tho, it's a little "bright heavy" cool vox, cool groove. good stuff!

mark: thanks, everylittle helps, motivational song to look like the pic I used, claudia lynx, mmmmm! robby: cool, what frequency is that whistle sound usually at can you recall? round the 1-3k region is it? ha, that was funny. Janet: Dont mind him, we've all come to know robbies dark humour!! ohgrant: timidi : Are you referring to pushing the first "Drop" back a 1/4, I see what your getting at although that prob wouldnt work with the drum "bang" I have between "Drop" and "Dead" then. Beagle:Thank you, I will look at that, although Im unsure is it better to solve this during the mix, or compress/boost gain the lows and mids on the master or reduce the highs/sparkle on the master?!?!?! oh beginners. Scotty: Thanks for you words also. When I write songs they never really seem to sit in one genre, I cant actually do it for some reason! Cian

Cian - general rule of thumb is to never try to fix something in the mastering stage that can be fixed in the mix! always try to fix it in the mix if it's possible!

I've heard of that rule of thumb beagle, although I noticed that I choose an ozone preset that purposefully pushed up the higher frequencieson THE eq master which may be all thats needed. Anyway, thanks all. Cian

Cian- This song is as hot as the chick in the picture! ..although I admit if I had to choose between your song or her for a dinner date....you understand of course I really dug the tune and the mix. I don't know if you have fixed it and uploaded a new version since the previous comments because I did not think it was too high endy. Fantastic job!

Very solid song with great melody lines and chorus. Very nice and catchy lyrics. The production and arrangement does not stay second either. Where did you get that kiss?

I listened to it on my 5.1 surround system. I did not think it was high endy but if I had to nit pick with anything..I might suggest the whistle at the start was a tiny bit loud. Thats nit picking though, again I think it was an awesome production and song.

Hi Cian, Love it. It gets groovier as it goes. That whistle is a sweet hook. Great harmonies. Maybe boost the drums/bass a bit, not sure, i'm on office speakers.

Very, very cool... if this had a monster Mark King style bass track, it could be a "Level 42" hit... if you'd like, I'll give it a shot...

Hey Cian. Excellent job all the way around on this. Nice strong hook, and those high harmonies sort of sound like what the BeeGee's might have sounded like if they were cool . I do hear some breath noise on the initial whistle right at the start. And I agree with Frank that a monster bass track would definitely take the tune to a new level... and he's making an offer that I'd suggest taking him up on. Other than that... Bravo!
