Did you already assign a drum map to the track? If so, double-click the MIDI clip again.

(edit: or drag down the separator hidden at the top of the PRV)

sorry guys, i must be blind, but none of that makes sense to me. 1) Im not sure what PRV is, 2) dont know where the hidden separator is. 3) cant find "pick track". I've been using cake walk for years but mostly for
audio tracks. Thought I would try this addictive drums. I have selected the 70s kit within addictive drums, so I think i have loaded a kit

There is a way to change the keyboard in the Piano Roll View (OP refers to as piano view) by right-clicking on the keyboard and changing the display using the "Note Names" dialog. If this is what you want to do you need to modify the master.ins to add Addictive Drum, see this thread. Otherwise you will need to use a drum map. One of the forum members was kind enough to create one (and some other stuff including a track template), see this thread. After installing the files from the link, you can either use the track template or
    • insert Addictive Drums using separate audio and MIDI tracks
    • on the MIDI track, select "New Drum Map" from the output drop down and
    • pick the Addictive Drums drum map.

Drum maps display information in the Drum Pane Grid above the Note Pane in the PRV. The Drum Pane Grid may not be visible. To make the pane visible either Click "Show/Hide Drum Pane" in the View menu in the PRV or click-drag the separator at the top of the Note Pane down to reveal the Drum Pane.

FWI, the "Pick Track" option is on the Tracks menu in the PRV.

Here is a picture of the PRV. "B" points to the Drum Pane Grid (illustration from http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR%20X3&Lang=EN&Req=EditingMIDI.03.html)
