Extending a Melodyne RFX clip?

I'm using Melodyne Editor (although the answer would probably be the same whether using Essential or Editor). I have a vocal clip which has been converted to a Melodyne RFX. What I want to do now is extend the right hand edge of the clip and then copy the last few blobs of the clip so they repeat a few times.

I can drag the clip out longer and copy/paste the blobs in Melodyne and they shows up fine. However the new blobs don't produce any sound. Melodyne also still shows the white background only up to the original clip's length, so my suspicion is that Melodyne isn't recognizing the extended part of the clip. Although it does allow copying of blobs into the extended area??

BTW I know I can copy/paste the whole RFX clip a few times and just shorten each clip to the blobs I'm interested in, but that seems a bit heavy for each repeated blob.

Anyone know how to make Melodyne play back blobs in the extended region?

AFAICT, when a Region FX is created in Melodyne, SONAR also passes the clip boundaries to Melodyne for the edit. I think this keeps them from "stepping on each other's toes" while they are working in tandem (ARA mode). For what you are doing, you may want to use Melodyne in stand-alone mode (at least for length edits) and then save the file with the same name (destructive edit). If open, SONAR will recognize that the file has been altered and ask you if you want to load the updated file.

In so inclined, you can also achieve the same results by adding Melodyne to the Utilities Menu (as a wave editor), but I no longer have it included in mine so cannot test, but use Audition this way all the time. This would save the step of launching/navigating Melodyne (stand-alone) to that initial clip. Mudgel posted a nice example of what those entries look like for Sound Forge in this post (may be easier to understand seeing that, just alter the red text to the appropriate Melodyne specific info).

    Michael,

Thanks for the info. I'll try your tip of using Melodyne as an external wave editor. Adding Melodyne as a wave editor to the menus is also interesting.

I think what I should have done is drag out the original audio clip to be longer before converting it to a RFX clip. But I didn't know at the time that I would want to have the vocals repeat. Live and learn
